When you backhand someone, you're incorporating muscles from your trunk, not just from your arm.

And if you've ever been slapped, you already know that it is a very hurtful smack anyway. A lot worse than on the bottom!

My parents used to make me "pick your own switch" off a tree, and if you got one that was too thick, they'd swat you twice.

I turned out okay Dr. Spock.

Hmm, I'd have thought it would have been the other way around?!?

One day my neighbor who was a bow-and-arrow hunter (honest it's relevant!) called his kid in for supper. Three times he called him and the kid didn't come in. So, he went storming out there after him. Turned the kid around and pulled his hand back to deliver the first (of probably many) swat and found my dog teeth bared and growling. My dog would run away from home to be with little kids--she doesn't play with them, she just has to be there. My dad has found her in the neighborhood across the creek with the littlest kids sitting on her. (The squirrel is wandering around on my desk checking it out. Just tipped over the little dish that had the peanuts shells in it.) Anywho, my neighbor as a bow-and-arrow hunter had biceps about 8 inches across (mine are only 4) so he could have taken my dog out in a heartbeat. But, as a hunter he knows there's one cardinal rule of hunting: NEVER ever get between the mother and her cubs--even if, as in this case, they are the wrong species! He decided to continue the lesson inside.

So, my dog taught me that there are 6 rules to proper spanking:

1) One swat
2) On the butt
3) Not hard
4) Bare-handed
5) Don't be angry when you do it

and the most important rule of all:

6) hugs and kisses afterwards. Sending a child to their room just when they need to know the most that you love them creates an emotional distiance that will never heal and in no time at all you will have no control at all. Love is the greatest power.

Very good story DJ.

The spanking I learned the most from, was the one my dad DIDN'T give me. He wanted to, and I deserved it, but he showed constraint.

I knew right then that he really did love me, even though he was very upset with me at the time.

I was the middle child of three girls and oh man, I was a brat in a lot of ways. I did what it took to get attention, and I didn't always care if it was negative attention or not.

I never got a spanking I didn't deserve. I did, however, skirt past some I should've gotten.

One guy wrote that the one that affected him the most was when his dad was crying while he was doing it.
