  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Those who were not baptized in Christ's true Church do NOT belong to His Church. They are not God's chosen people - house of Israel.

And just think...all those people prior to Joe Smith....who believed in Christ sacrificial atonement on the cross...didn't really belong to the true church.

Why is the Pastor of my church not the proper authority?
By what authority does your Pastor baptize? What priesthood does He have?
The only True Priesthood is found in Christ's One True Church, which on Earth is named the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Secondly, who say you need some sort of authority to baptize someone? All you need to do is be a christian.
Your first sentence here contradicts the second.

....keeping in mind baptism is not a requirement for salvation.
Says who?
The Bible commands Christ's followers to "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

It is not enough just to believe in Christ in order to become a member of Christ's Church or belong to God's chosen people house of Israel.
It is important to be baptized by proper authority. Only those who are given this authority from God can baptize or lay hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
But all those who believed in Christ but didn't have an opportunity in THIS life to be baptized in Christ's true Church will have this opportunity in spirit world before their resurrection from the dead. Isn't God great? Gospel of Jesus Christ is truly Good News!

Why is the Pastor of my church not the proper authority?
Because he didn't receive it yet. Only in true Church of Christ men can receive this blessing.
Secondly, who say you need some sort of authority to baptize someone? All you need to do is be a christian.
God says this through His prophets.
....keeping in mind baptism is not a requirement for salvation.
If this was true Jesus Himself wouldn't be baptized. Jesus was baptized and said: "FOLLOW ME". When I am baptized I FOLLOW Jesus. If I do NOT follow Jesus I am NOT His disciple. If I am NOT His disciple I am not saved. It does NOT matter what I BELIEVE if I do NOT FOLLOW Jesus.

The only True Priesthood is found in Christ's One True Church, which on Earth is named the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The priesthood is found in the bible...ever read it? Now you gotta disqualify this verse in support for your beliefs.

1 Peter 2:5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Says who?
The Bible commands Christ's followers to "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."

I kinda think your taking this verse out of context...if baptism was required the bible would be full of verses telling us to be baptized to remove our sins...guess what? It's not....John 3:16 would be worded differently as well as dozens of other verses. Every one who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved...oh, and I might add to the bible, only if you're baptized.
Now couple that with the instances in the bible where people are saved..PRIOR.. to baptism and one realizes your theology is wrong.

I wouldn't hang a whole theological concept on one verse when some many others disagree with your interpretation.

Following Jesus isn't what gets you saved....folllowing Jesus is what you should do after you're saved.

Many times.

There is no contradiction between my beliefs and this verse.

Right now it sounds like you are ignoring the Bible verse. Could you please actually address it?

Did I say that baptism was supposed to happen after faith in Christ? No. Faith in Christ comes first.

I wouldn't hang a whole theological concept on one verse when some many others disagree with your interpretation.
Actually numerically speaking, +80% of Christianity believes in the necessity of baptism for salvation and the importance of priesthood by ordination.

Yes it is.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Ok, so "Mike" believes newly in Christ- great! Now he must get baptized and follow Him. If he does not, then his faith is dead: good for nothing.

John said this because TO BELIEVE is step number one. To believe is very important but NOT enough. If it was enough Christ wouldn't say :"FOLOW ME".
If some one does NOT believe someone will NOT follow Christ. If someone does NOT follow Christ he or she is NOT Christ's disciple. If someone is NOT Christ's disciple he or she can not be saved.

Sure John 3:16...For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Where have I ignored it?

what gets me saved?

Belief alone. You slap Jesus in the face when you think you can help yourself in getting saved.
Baptism is a symbolic representaion of Christ death burial and resurrection...and how we are now associated with it.

You ignored it in the fact that you didn't talk about it.

Where does the bible say if you don't get baptized your faith is dead?
Christ: "If you love me, keep my commandments".
"Faith without works is dead"

To say that you love Christ but to ignore his commandments (like baptism) is a dead faith.

Do you keep all of Christ commandments? Do you?
I strive to, and repent when I fall short. I do not ignore the commands of my Lord.

Do you believe a person can bluntly and without repentance ignore Christ's commands (like that to be baptized) and still call Him Lord?
