• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I strive to, and repent when I fall short. I do not ignore the commands of my Lord.

Do you believe a person can bluntly and without repentance ignore Christ's commands (like that to be baptized) and still call Him Lord?

If you strive to..yet fall short..you failed to keep Jesus' commands. In those instances you ignored the commands of the Lord.

The priesthood is found in the bible...ever read it?

-57, it's comments like this which give the appearance that you don't care about dialogue.

You see, this statement ultimately relies on the presumption that we're all Biblically ignorant. We're not. Church members are actually pushed to read through the Standard Works at least once every four years, whereas far too many Mainline Christians can go their entire lives without having read the Bible cover-to-cover.

Yes, I've seen that happen. About a decade ago, for example, a Mainline Christian tried to lecture me about the Bible despite [1] their own admission that they had not read it cover-to-cover yet and [2] my having just retired my first set of scriptures because the spines were coming apart due to years of wear from constant reading. In his eyes, however, this being a member in the "correct" form of Christianity more than made up the difference.

In and of itself, your statement would be bad enough. But, we then have you follow it up with:

Thank God.

You're trying to debate a religious system that you don't understand.

Do you not see the problem in this?

Because you do not understand the theology, you do not understand what it is we believe, let alone how it is that we interpret the verses you've tried to post as "evidence" against us. You're also telling us that you do not care about us as people, only as tally marks for your scorecard.

It's this kind of mentality that is driving people towards the LDS faith and away from Mainline Christianity.

I don't claim to understand all of the LDS theology....I do understand it enough to see that much of it is false.
I thank God that I haven't bought into their doctrines.

And just think...all those people prior to Joe Smith....who believed in Christ sacrificial atonement on the cross...didn't really belong to the true church.
Did all the Jews at the time of Christ believe in the true church? All those millions of Jews believed in the messiah.

Then I've been told lies by mormons I know as well as mormons who post on this and other forums. According to you even the Sundy School lessons lie about mormon beliefs.
There were no lies. Just a lack of understanding on your part (which can be understandable, after all different faiths are different). Would you like to understand?

I've been trying to get you to tell me what Jesus was prior to being born of a mother in heaven. You refuse to tell me. It's as if you don't want me to understand or that you don't know.

Actually, I did respond to your question:
Again, your understanding is flawed. You keep using the word "born", which in our limited human understanding typically involves a physical screaming child coming out of a birth canal. This is not the case.
You did not reply.

This lack of response indicates that you have no interest in actually understanding LDS beliefs. Obviously, I am not a mind-reader and do not know if that is your actual intention, but it points that way. Hence my questions as to whether or not you want to actually understand LDS beliefs.

I want to know what Jesus was prior to being born from a heavenly mother.

...was he once a person on another planet?

Do you acknowledge that there was no birth canal in this process? That our mortal conception of what it means to be "born" does not apply?

I acknowledge Jesus wasn't born of a heavenly mother.

I also asked......was Jesus once a person on another planet?

Prior to His birth from heavenly parents, Jesus, along with all of us, existed as "intelligences". He would not have been a person on another planet. Perhaps you are thinking of the Father, who it has been taught was once a man on an earth somewhere.

That's a pretty strange an unbiblical concept. I would love to see that supported using the bible.

No.

If you are trying to understand LDS beliefs, you are going to have to look through LDS eyes. Does that make sense?
