With all the debates going on about things like abortion and euthinasia and whether it should be legalised or not and while I dont want to get into which is the better side for these sorts of arguements, I have been thinking though, alot about pain and suffering and why bad things happen in general. I would really like to come up with an answer/theory/whatever you wanna call it to the question 'why do bad things happen?'

the question i have relates to whether the law gives way to sin or does sin force the law to come into place?
what do you guys think?

Sin is a funny concept (not in the haha sense, unless you're a determinist). I have some theories on sin in general.

Firstly, sin, for those described in the Pentateuch was related more to ritual impurity than right/wrong. Interestingly, the whole homosexuality is an abomination is mistranslated as abomination when the word used is really closer to ritual impurity. Blood sacrifices and rituals had to be performed to purge 'sin'.

Jesus came in the NT, and died, and was meant as the ultimate blood sacrifice for all of humanity. As far as the biblical author would be concerned, there is no more sin - that is to say there is nothing in the world which makes us ritually impure. The onus for humans now is to act righteously, as we are absolved of the consequences and needs of ritual impurity.

As for "does sin force the law to come into place," as I understand Christian theology sins are violations of god's orders. So if Christians want to enforce such violations with penalizing consequences for everyone, whether Christian or not, then they makes laws to that effect. Other laws, such as those regulating driving, are more regulatory in nature to help society function better.

I have no idea what you mean by, "law gives way to sin."

It appears to me that bad things happen because we live in an impersonal uncaring universe. That is the most obvious explanation.
