  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Grrrr...my high speed internet is behaving like dial-up!! My college marching band has some videos on YouTube. But some of the comments below are not in tasteful language for me to post the link here. I must admit, it was fun being in the band in college, but the language was awful & the insinuations. Funny how things look different when you get older!

Hi, cygnus! Cool that I got it right! :D

Also cool that your ISP's up and running.....with no hassles, I hope.....

yes well done for playing the game and getting it right JS . :D

Finaly I have got all laptops and games machines (and another PC) working wirelessly , I spent about 3 hours getting it sorted , I couldn't figure out why my new router wouldn't recognise any other machine , then I had another look at the back of my router and found a second code , I was using the first :doh: :doh: :D

It seems to be a good service so far , here's the product I chose with a broadband phone thrown into the package ;

this web site ought to help any UK residents seeking advice on what are the best packages for broadband ;

Looks pretty good, cyg. :cool: The ultimate, it says there. :D I wouldn't mind getting all the cords and stuff up off the floor.....we seem to have cords everywhere for just two desktop pcs, plus the cord running from the boys' room to this room with the cable connection thing. But we're not considering anything else with it all just at present.....

Hello, cygnus :)

I'm good thanks. :) We had a busy day today with two services, and then I spent all afternoon sorting out a whole load of papers that have been waiting. Watched Lord of the Rings Part 3 at the same time :D and then Beethoven Part 1. After that we had dinner and then the kids put on Singstar.....do you have that over there? Sort of like karaoke which you can rent out from the dvd store. It's pretty cool! :) I hope things are good for all of you.....

I didn't recognise the title of the song there, but knew it when I heard it. It's a lovely song, cyg. :)

Here's a blast from my past. ^_^ One of the few songs I really like of his. :p :D

Good to see you are OK JS , and good on you with the Karaoke thing :D we don't have that here , at least I haven't seen it.
I haven't seen LOTR right through yet , I saw part 1 , and someone who shall remain nameless spolied the plot........ grrrrrrr.

I have just been speaking with a friend who I used to work with , he is now 76 (last week) and enjoying retirement but admits it's all going too fast , he is a lovely old guy , a real Brit , he was raised in a small town , went into the boot and shoe trade then signed up to the army at the close of the second world war , I think it was subscription back then , he did some time in Germany and later married an Italian , then spent about 30-40 years delivering beer. He is always a pleasure to speak to and he has a real dry sense of humour , I learned alot from being with him :p

It's quiet here , the boys are out with their band , and the women are busy at work at the local residential home so it's just me and the dog :wave: :hug:

great song , I like Billy Joel , here's my fav from him ;

Thanks, cyg.....yes, I wanted to get some stuff sorted. I haven't finished yet but I actually enjoyed doing it as it's always good to see order emerge out of disorder. :D And LOTR helped too. Do you mean spoiled Part 1 or the whole thing? Cos you really should watch Parts 2 and 3, cyg.....they're such awesome films. I love Part 3 best of all.

That's lovely that you have such a cool friend, cyg. :)

I was blessed today as I was asked to pray for a lady who came to the service for the first time.....she was a bit older than me, cyg.....and I asked our lad, who is 20 now, to come too. It's the second time I've asked him to pray as well and our pastor is happy with that. It was so.....dunno the word to use....it touched my heart to see him as he was really only half-pie listening to start with, as the lady spoke to us of issues she's facing.....his attention was still partially on the movement around us....but then he became really focused and prayed for her. He prays so beautifully, cyg. He has a very compassionate heart and a pastoral care gift, I think. Anyway, I was blessed to see him comforting and praying for this lady.....

It's quiet here too....everyone has gone to bed relatively early this evening, except for said son who is on his pc too. :D

Oh, the singstar dvd is cool.....it's like karaoke, but on the top half of the screen there are two bars.....one red and one blue. You get 2 mics with it and you can have competitions. :D As you sing, your bar fills in, on the line if you're on target with the melody and off if you're not :p and then it'll say *cool!* or *ok* depending how you sang each line. And you get points throughout the song and whoever gets the most points wins. Our lad grinned as his voice is all croaky right now and he didn't really know one of the songs, but he still managed to beat our girl. :) I just remembered you actually play it in the PS2.....

ahhhh yes the PS2 game , yes I bought that for my daughter a couple of yeras ago , I remember it now. :D

I will get around to seeing LOTR , it's just such a long film , we have it on DVD . :)

Great to here things are going well at your Church and with your son , maybe he will enter the ministry full time. .......... wait a minute , I personally think we are all in the ministry , and that making it into a "professional vocation" is somewhat missing the whole point if you get my drift JS ....:D

Yes, I do get your drift, cyg, and I agree. :) I do think, though, that each of us is called to something specific for the Lord, and for some it may be what most would term their 'job', I guess you could say. As of now, we're in waiting mode for direction from the Lord for our lad.....

I would love to see him do something with music and I hope to get in touch with a man we know soon who may be able to help him get a song onto a CD. Just waiting for the right time as I know this dude is really busy right now.....

Well, do you reckon you'll have LOTR watched by....say, the end of summer? :p :D I've never read the books, have you? On the other hand I've read all the Narnia books many times, but haven't watched the movie yet. :)

Here's a song I really loved back in the day. :D Still do, actually, cyg.....and our kids like it now too. :D

They like the bit when he sings high. ^_^ Oh man.....:D I just watched the vid and saw it was a lady singing at one point, and some other dude singing the funny high bit. :D All this time I thought it was JB himself doing it all by himself, cos I'd never seen a vid of this song before :doh: :D

3. The Little Grey Men / B.B.
4. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer / Mark Twain

Yes, I've read a few of C S Lewis' books for adults, though it's some time since I last read anything of his.

The Silver Sword rings a bell, cygnus. I think we had to read that at school one year, though I'm afraid I've forgotten it now.

I guess my list of books would be.....

1. Narnia - C S Lewis
2. What Katy Did - Susan Coolidge
3. Heidi - Johanna Spyri
4. The Incredible Journey - Sheila Burnford
5. A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens

My mother read A Christmas Carol to me over consecutive evenings when I was quite little.....about 5 years old, I guess. :) I don't know the book 'The Little Grey Men', though I think you may have mentioned it another time. I'll look for it.....

as far as writing goes I don't think anyone can beat Charles Dickens JS , so many great works. OK , Shakespear is perhaps the greatest but Dickens is just amazing.

here's a thread I thought you might like JS ; :D

I think I like Dickens better than Shakespeare. *hides from the true-blue Shakespeare fans* :D I especially like his novel 'The Old Curiosity Shop'. :thumbsup:

I haven't read as many of his books as I could have, though.

Thanks for the link. :D
