  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, my screen name is based on a Greek word, which is far cooler than Latin.

Yeah I would have to say that Latin is cool.

I just wish I knew more then just Corpus Christi.

I learned latin, but I don't remember too much of it. I do remember at least two :

(pseudo-latin) Semper ubi sub ubi - "Always wear underwear". This one's pseudo latin because ubi doesn't mean 'wear', but 'where' (as in a question), but its still amusing.

(actual latin) morituri te salutamus - "We who are about to die salute you". The gladiators would apparently say this to the emperor before fighting - presumably to the death o_O .

It's not cool and it's not uncool. It really depends on what it says...of course, even if it is a catchy catchphrase, most people aren't likely to know it and won't bother to look it up. I know I've never bothered to look up quotes/titles/sigs in languages I didn't know....well, I have a few times...but otherwise I just don't bother.

I studied Latin for two years. Had an A all the way through and even recieved a certificate for getting the highest grade in the class. Now I hardly remember any of it.
