  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a couple of coworkers who had this done and who knew others who did it, what's your thoughts about it? Lol, I kinda want to do it but am afraid lol what if I become that 1% with bad results and possible blindness, eeeek!

Sounds really tempting though, if it is successful, no need to worry about wearing glasses or contacts, no more hassle just clear vision. Kinda pricey too though :/
Some said their vision returned to 20/20 and they had the surgery like 10 to 20 yrs ago and it is still good.

Would you do it if you had the money?

My girlfriend's mom, sister, & brother have all gotten it done in the past couple of years, all swear that it's the best decision. They got deals with Groupon, lol. The surgeons were top rated in the Atlanta area, so they were quality, just a better price. I think like $2500 or so. They just said that their eyes were real dry the 1st month or two out, had to keep putting eye drops in. They used this special ointment at night. You have to be careful driving at night for a little while, within a couple of weeks they were fine. My girlfriend wants to get it done too, she's sick of wearing glasses & contacts. The surgeon said it's best to wait till you're 23 or older on account of how your eyes are changing more before then. My eyesight is good, so I don't need anything but I'd go for the surgery if I did.

This might sound really crazy to say because even blindness in one eye would be absolutely terrible, but if that extremely rare chance happened, at least it would only be in one eye. Being only blind in one eye is 100 times better than in both eyes!

It’s a 1% chance for bad results, and less than that for blindness? 1% sounds high for blindness!! And does some of the ‘Bad results’ mean no improvement, as opposed to your vision actually getting worse?

I did Lasik eye surgery earlier this year. I won't need glasses again until I'm in my 40's!

I'd say it's worth it. Since losing the glasses, I've been getting more girls smiling at me than usual.

Nice! Where you scared prior to the surgery? What convinced you to have it done?

aaah yeah, need to consider all possibilities...:argh: but i mean it is very super duper rare to get a bad result. And I mean, constantly placing contacts increases risks for infection and contacts a year is about $500 so lasik if successful would be worth it, but yeah that 1% thing...dun dun dun:tantrum:

I have thought about it, but it's very expensive (and it's deemed cosmetic surgery by my medical plan, so they won't cover it) and there are a lot of other things I can think of that I'd like to spend that money on if I had it.

I was a little nervous. At the waiting room you're there for at least an hour and everyone is just so silent as if they're contemplating life. The surgery itself was not so bad. It's the waiting period is what's the worst part.

I just hated wearing glasses. They fog up during winter, they break and cost money, they make me look like crap, and poor eyesight is one less disability I'd like to have in life.

So brave way! True about glasses getting fogged up lol, happens to me too and like sometimes the nose piece is too tight putting pressure on my nose ridge and like leaving pressure mark. Hahaaha itll really make one contemplate about life.

I don't know if you have heard of icl, but it's way better than lasik. For one its reversal. In lasik they cut a piece of your eye out that you aint ever getting back. Two less side effects, and if you do have side effects you can get rid of them by just reversing the surgery. My sister just had hers done last year and she is so glad she did it. Also with icl you can see better than you can with lasik. Definitely look into it. Lasik is cheaper thats about its only benefit.

Lol. I have to read with my eyes farther back from the page than when I was younger, so I have thought about lasik too. Can you please tell me how you’re supposed to word that prayer where the money and the note falls down?? Lol

Dear Heavenly Father,
You said in Your word, ask and it shall be given, seek and you will find...but wait! Father my eyesight is blurry, i will need assistance so i can "find".but thank you for the advancement in technology...lasik...if it be thine perfect will...send me a sign! As you caused mana to rain from heaven....please rain down $3000 to $4000 (because of taxes) so that i may see. Please include a post it note too with Your blessing for Lasik that my peace will be full. In Jesus name, amen.

Ahh yes, of course, thanks for reminding me!! Sometimes I just don’t know where my head is at, that prayer is right there in the middle of Luke! Lol
