• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have just started lamictal and am working with my pdoc to eventually wean off seroquel.

I am noticing a couple of things. 2 times i felt a weird sharp throbbing pain in my head. It repeated about every 30 seconds and total lasted about 5 mintues. It scared me to death but only happened 2 times aroudn day 4 or 5. Any thoughts?

Also I've been having bad dreams and I wake up remembering them. that was how it was when i had sleep problems before. The rule of thumb is if i remember the dreams i usually didn't sleep well/soundly. And I've been feeling really really tired. Is lamitcal one of those drugs that should be taken in the morning? Any thoughts on that?

Finally seroquel gives me the major muchies about 1 hour after i take it and it totally makes me unconciious i find my limbs get really heavy and it's hard to move but my pulse goes up and i feel like my heart is racing but i cannot move. It freaks me out.

I know you all are not doctors and believe me i am going to ask about all of this on thursday...but you guys do have your experiences and i thought you could tell me what you thought.

Lamictal intensifies my dreams. My psychiatrist says it can be taken any time of the day. I take it in the morning but it doesn't make a difference with my dreams unfortunately.

berry, I was told by my Pdoc that I need to start taking Lamictal. SHe told me this about a month ago and I put it off. Now that I am having mania symptoms pop -up and have been hypo manic for two weeks... she says I can't wait any longer. However, I am going out to the bush and won't be near hospitals for a week, so I am waiting till after I get back.

I will let you know what happens with me as I begin to take it.

First of all why whould she want to put you on Lamitcal and take you off seroquel. Did the seroquel not help you or something. I take seroquel and it works fine for me. Seroquel is a mood stabilizer and helps for depression witrh BP and also helps with sleep. It works great for me I dont need to take anything else.

I took Seroquel for my thought disorder it did it's job I'll give it that, but sometimes it took me till 1:00 pm to wake up and not feel drowsy.

I gained weight on Seroquel, like fifty pounds actually, switched to abilify and leveled off on the weight, but abilify made me throw up my food like once a week, and it got hard to eat, it was bothersome. Then I switched to Geodon and that stuff is great I want to stay on that for a long time I have lost fifteen pounds in a six month period while taking that and I work at Mc Donald's and eat there five times a week, like double quarter pounders, and I keep losing weight or I stay the same it is great.

Sincerely,

Thomas

I don't think Geodon is used for Bipolar but you never know, ask your doctor.

I don't understand how the biploar affects the ocd but I know it does cause my ocd hasn't been like this before. Some please reply.Thank You

First, welcome to the board! :) Lets see, My question would be have you explored each of the antidepressants dosage levels individually? You probably have, I just was giving it as a thought... As far as the OCD. i never mention it, because it only happens at certain times in my bipolar cycle, but I do have slight OCD tendencies. IT is not fun, I is usually followed with short term memory loss. That is also disturbing, because I am known for remembering every detail, and Sometimes I cannot even remember why I walked into a room, or what I did the day before. That last longer than the OCD tendencies. I am so sorry that you are having such a difficult time. Take comfort in remembering That God has already walked you path, and cried your every tear, He is by you side, and when It feels like your all alone, search yourself, you will surely see you are safely in th palm of His Hand! May the Lord continue to be your strength!

God Bless...

jewellj has your doctor had you try Deplin? It's like a souped up Folic Acid (B vitamin) that's only by prescription. It's for augmentation of existing antidepressant. My doc says it works for about 25% of his patients. It didn't work for me. But it showed me that my doc is up on the latest stuff and is trying.

It's getting close to the point for me where there isn't much else to try so I know how you feel.

Lamictal pretty much keeps me out of the abyss.
