I'm willing to bet that good many of them jumped ship once the Sickening Sixties were in full swing, and abandoning the Church was the, like, cool and groovy thing to do, man, can you dig it?
On the other hand, the ones who did stay with the Church---I wonder how many of them were teaching goofy nonsense way back when?
I'd love to see the results of a study done on this sometime. My bet is that the screwy doctrine teachers were bailouts, while the steady orthodox ones were not.
