  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ladies, do pet names bother you?

Women: Does it bother you when other women call you honey, hun, baby, sweety, etc.? How do you take it? And does it depend on who is saying it and the situation? Curious how others take this.

YES, it bothers me. NO it does not depend on the situation or the person. I absolutely positively loathe pet-names.

nope. the only time i even take note of it is if a guy is doing it (unless of course i know it to be a thing with him) pet names from strange men around here isn't incredibly common so it makes me take a second look when I hear them. I'm not automatically bothered in that case either, it depends.

I have to change my answer a bit. There's a woman I work with who always call me "dear" or "sweetie" and normally that wouldn't bother me, but I happen to know that she dislikes me so to hear her call me those things just sounds fake to me. And it annoys me. Alot.

No, pet names do not bother me. My spouse usually calls me baby, sweetie, honey, darling, sweetie-pie etc. OH, how could I forget that I hate the really long 'orginal' ones. For example, snugglywugglyboo or anything along that line.

I'm male and I usually just address people without using their name or a substitute pet name. This sort of sounds weird - it may relate to my schizoid or schizotypal personality however.

If a woman uses pet names at a store for instance I realize that that is what she usually does, and don't get annoyed.
