Women: Does it bother you when other women call you honey, hun, baby, sweety, etc.? How do you take it? And does it depend on who is saying it and the situation? Curious how others take this.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Other women: No, it doesn't bother me. It probably doesn't bother me because i'm one of those awful ladies, everyone is a lovely/lovey/lover/ducky/chickadee/sweetpea/sugarplum to me. It's pretty common up here, very rarely do I hear anyone avoid calling someone they know (however vaguely) some kind of pet name.

nope. the only time i even take note of it is if a guy is doing it (unless of course i know it to be a thing with him) pet names from strange men around here isn't incredibly common so it makes me take a second look when I hear them. I'm not automatically bothered in that case either, it depends.

Newbie no more!
It's wasn't the norm most of my life (except my parents), so when one of my new gal friends started calling me honey or sweetie, it was weird at first! But it's just who she was and I got used to it. It doesn't bother me at all nowdays when anyone talks like that. Actually, I live in the South now so like a previous member, you just have to get used to it!

I was about to make a thread about this today. Pet names gets on my nerves. I hate when people call me sweetie, hun, baby esp when you are conducting business like at the store, Library, Resturant....

Amen sista... I was starting to wonder if I was the only one... one of my BIGGEST PET PEEVES ever! I might as well have a fly buzzing in my ear or hear nails on a chalkboard! Yeah when it's someone I'm not close to, that's when it irks me.

I'll chip in a guy's perspective for the sake of being a rebel.
Personally, I don't mind pet names, if its coming a woman I really like whom I've known for a while. Otherwise, it just feels insincere when a girl uses pet names for me. We haven't had time to get that close, don't act like we are by using goofy nicknames. That's how I feel about it anyway. I don't get offended if a girl uses pet names, but it really doesn't do anything for me unless we're close.

For example, if it's a friend, or boyfriend or even a parent, pet names are fine with me. Totally doesn't bother me, I'm big on pet names.
But for example if it's a stranger, it all depends on the situation. If it's said in a patronizing way where they're just saying it talking down to you, then that ticks me off. But like sometimes it could be an older man or woman and thats just how they are, and how they talk and it's no big deal. Like I said, it all depends on who it is, and how it's said.

If they are said by a stranger then I get a bit uncomfortable. Parents... it's a little weird then, too. Although, I'm a little more used to the Spanish pet names my aunts and uncles give me.
As for a boyfriend or something like that... it wouldn't bother me so much, but if they are overused I'm just going to laugh.
But they wont bother me. I probably wont use them too much myself though.
Maybe it's because I actually use pet names on my pets, so using them on people and having them used on me is funny to me. I don't know.

It doesn't bother me at all except this one exception: I hate the pet name "baby" whether it's coming from a man or a woman. For some reason every time I hear someone say it, it makes me think of a low-life in a wife beater tank top thinking he's all that and a bag of chips. Sorry

Uhhh...I'm not crazy about it, but I'm not going to have coronary if someone calls me by a name I consider stupid and annoying. Sooner or later that person will get the drift that I hate and stop calling by it. Names like baby, babe, and maybe girl/girly are fine...but everything else is just...ehh.
Especially the real over-the-top stuff like, pookie and pumpkin. *sigh* My name is SHARON. Call me by it, please.

I use pet-names in my relationships and sometimes my friends who are close to me. Pretty much the people who know me - know I mean well and bless them in Christ. I wouldn't use the word "Baby" because I probably would get smack unless the person that I am referring to is my girlfriend/wifey lol
I have used "hun" and "sweetie" outside the realm of relationships towards my Sisters in Christ and I say it in the most sweetest caring way it all depends on the person - and if the person is like "no pet names" I will respect that but no-one has said "drew stop being so nice to me" because I'm good at uplifting my Sisters in Christ

I wouldn't like say "Sweetie Sharon" because she doesn't know me for starters.
And if we developed a friendship. And she doesn't "break" from the "no pet names".
I shall respect that.

I don't mind it at all. My friends, coworkers, teachers, and even customers and random people call me, "honey, sweetie, kiddo, darling, bumpkin...etc" I find it kind of nice...
