• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I am recovering from depression that began this time last year. Within the past month, I have improved drastically which I thank God for and give all the Glory to Him for His help.

I now have lots of energy since I cut down on my dosage of fluxotine (generic for prozac) and now do what I set my mind to do. It's great! I'm getting out of it.

One thing that I cannot get out of is a lack of motivation for cleaning. I hate to clean! I'm sure nobody LOVES to clean, but I always put off my cleaning until I absolutely have to. I guess you could call me somewhat of a slob. I mean I can't stand dirty dishes or dirty laundry and trash. I always take care of the trash, laundry and dishes. But when it comes to cleaning the bathroom, it makes me sick and nauseous. I live with two men that dirty it up and don't clean up after themselves. It's so gross!!

So, what do you guys do to get in the mood for cleaning??What motivates you to clean and do the dirty work that HAS to be done? Alll advice is greatly appreciated!

usually, i listen to music while im doing the yucky chores...
it puts me in a good mood, and then im thinking about the words and what im singing instead of the task im suposed to be doing.

so yeah, listening to music is about all i can think of right now....

yeah you are right. I do that too. That helps. Today, while I was scrubbing the toilet (yuck!), I was listening to this awesome Christian rock band called "Seventh Day Slumber". Anyone ever heard of them? They are getting big and have an awesome song called "Caroline". It's playing on my myspace. They have performed twice in my town in the past 2 months.

But yeah, great advice dramaqueen. Listening to music really does take your mind off of the task at hand. Thanks!

Hi.. . . haven't seen you around much. You made me laugh. I want you to know that. When you mentioned how gross the bathroom is because of two men that you live with. It's so true.

Keep a bottle of bleach near the toilet. It helps. Also keep disinfectant spray nearby for the lid and seat. Spray and use little toilet paper to remove any debris or stains.

Good to see your post. Thanks for the laugh too.

Love,
Kim

 hey now.^_^ ^_^ some guys are slobs and some actually care about the toliet seat and others around them!
living on my own I have less chores but I still freak out over clutter and mess so I don't have a problem with cleaning. I always think this: Hotel bathrooms are the cleanest-why? Because they CLEAN THEM DAILY!:sorry: take it easy:wave:

Awesome advice! I do have disinfectant spray and and am going to invest in some oder remover (which my coworker calls "buttspray" hehe!) Yeah, not ALL guys but a lot don't care at all about what messes they make on the toilet.
We have a sign above our compode that reads "Guys stand closer, it's shorter than you think. Ladies, sit for the entire performance!" My mom hung that on the wall and I laugh at it every time I see it!

Yeah you are right. I wasn't referring to the whole male population in general. It's just the norm in my house that the men don't care if they miss the hole. I don't have time to clean the toilet everyday, nor do I want to cuz it makes me nauseous. However, I will take Kim's advice and keep bleach and disinfectant spray near the toilet and use it often.

^_^ Trinitygrace you really are a HOOT !! ^_^

You have made my morning...if anyone would of said my morning would be made by someone talking about "some" men and toliets...I would of thought them nuts!! (really I can't stop grinning)

I live with 3 men. Two have their own bathroom downstairs which I don't touch...literally ! I think I will write out the sign your mother had posted in the bathroom. My three men just couldn't aim right if their life depended on it! I just bought a new toliet seat for the upstairs bathroom, which shocked my husband! He asked why I had done that and I got to share with him the "stains" he left behind becoming too much for me and the toliet seat

Thanks again trinity for making my day

I give myself a treat. If I buy a new book, or a new movie or something I make that my reward for cleaning the house. It really seems to work for me and it gives me something to work toward...besides just a clean house!

Peace,
Asylum

Hey Trinitygrace

I got so carried away with that "toliet" thing...I didn't type what helps me....

I find not doing every room or "things" on my list of household duties at once. Spread them out through out the week. Believe me...the mess doesn't go anywhere..it's waiting for you when you make the time to do it. And no one has gotten deathly ill or died when I didn't vaccum for a week. lol ^_^

I am horrible at this very same thing!

One thing I have done in the past that helped was rent books on tape at the library. I made it a rule that I could ONLY listen to it when I cleaned. That did seem to help give me the incentive.

Or, I would tell myself that I "only" have to clean for 15 minutes and that I can do ANYTHING for 15 minutes. Then after I got started if I wanted to do more than 15 great, but if I wanted to stop after 15 minutes I would let myself knowing that at least I had started.
