But according to the jury it wasn't unlawful. So nope.

What difference does "cross state lines" mean? This is not illegal or immoral. This is usually a dog whistle for "we need more gun control".

The court and jury decided that
1. Kyle had a right to be in Kenosha.
2. Kyle had the right to own/openly carry his rifle.
3. He had a right to walk through the streets during a riot!
4. He had the right to self-defense.

Kyle was the victim and he legally killed his victimizers.

I agree that none of these points are heroic, yet neither are they immoral/illegal. The court decided Kyle was right on every charge.

Furthermore, most Antifa and BLM are bussed into cities and states that they do not reside in. They wouldn't be able to riot, loot, burn, and kill without crossing state lines.

That appears to be a primary point that Peter J Barban is constantly overlooking. He should not have been in Kenosha, and he certainly should not have been there with a gun, especially illegally. He would not have felt threatened or been physically hurt, and two people would not be dead, if not for that.

I get the desire to protect and defend. In fact I often pray to God that if ever presented with a situation in which I can do just that, that He will give me a brave heart to throw myself without question in front of someone - whether it's a stranger or someone I know and love - to spare them pain or death in any way. .... But only as the same example that Christ gave Himself as: the sacrifice, the one who is willing to take pain and damage in the victim's place. I do NOT pray that He give me the heart to carry and use a lethal weapon when needing to be a protector of someone.

The gun charges were the FIRST thing they threw out.
Why? Because in Wisconsin (where he obtained the gun...not Illinois), it is LEGAL for a 17 year old to carry a rifle (hunting laws), without a permit. I am from Wisconsin. There was NO illegality regarding the gun, so please stop perpetuating this rumor.

For those who need it spelled out, Kyle's a hero, not because he shot some people who threatened his life, but because he overcame the temptation to shoot every threat. In the end, he followed the law even when it would have been safer to "spray and pray".

1. No one is supposed to "spray and pray" into a crowd. Not doing so doesn't make a person a hero.
2. He had a semiautomatic weapon, which means he couldn't "spray and pray" anyway.

I was once a 17-year-old boy and I raised 3 boys who were once 17 years old. Here's how it would have gone in my house or my dad's house, for that matter.

"Dad, there could be riot in Kenosha tonight. Can I go?"
"No, absolutely not"

"Will you drive me to Kenosha?"
"No"

"Can I use the car tonight?"
"No"

"Can you unlock my gun so I can have it?"
"No, since you aren't target shooting, hunting, or cleaning it."

"When you're 18 and living in your own place, you can go to any riots you want, but you're not doing it as long as you're under my roof."

So if that is true, then I have no problem taking back what I said about the illegality of having the gun in his possession.


Nevertheless my ultimate point stands that, while it may have been deemed lawful, Kyle should not have grabbed a gun and willingly gone to where there was conflict, to an environment where there was every chance that he'd feel or be threatened heavily enough to feel the need to use it on someone. This could have easily been avoided.

One of the biggest lies in this story is "Kyle had no business being there with a gun.

If he is not breaking the law, and the court decided that he wasn't, then Kyle can go where he wants and do want he wants.

That means that being in Kenosha during a riot with a rifle was his business, his right. It's not our business, nor the protestor's business. Stop lying about Kyle!

It was his business to be there and he had a right to be there without being assaulted. Sometimes just defending the rights of yourself and your community is heroic.

Sometimes heroes, as they protect others, are forced to kill evildoers who are intent on harming the community. We still need dangerous men who risk themselves to protect us.

You may not like it, but don't lie about it.
