Thank you! Also, is it common for there to be three meetings a week expected? (Sun morning, sun eve, wed)?

Expected?

Church services, referred to typically in Baptist Churches as "Sunday School" and "Worship" are set by the individual church leadership. It is quite common to have the services you described, while some churches have even more offerings - every day of the week, others will have less.

When something is "expected," you might do well to ask more questions and ask for biblical authority on the matter. Good on you for starting that already.

Well, I ended up deciding to not attend that church any longer before becoming a member. Which was very sad for me and I miss many components of my experience there. But I had a difficult time with the KJ-only, a somewhat stringent pressure to attend all services. I was thinking about becoming a member and was given a copy of by laws. It was at that point I knew I couldn't go further. I have been considering another baptist church.

As others have stated, no not all Baptist churches are KJV only. Many use the NIV. A few even use the NASB or the HCSB.

As Blue stated, the NLT is easier to read but it is a dynamic and paraphrased translation. I personally do not like those types of translations as they are not as accurate as a formal equivalent translation such as the KJV, NASB, ESV or NRSV with regard to the actual Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek direct translations. They rely more on a "thought for thought" approach.

The message will be the same but the finer details might be a little muddy.

And no Blue, this was not a stab at you.

I know how you feel.

I'd avoid KJVOnylist churches. If you were to ask me, I'm urge you to find a reformed baptist church that doesn't take legalistic stances on issues, such as which bible version to use. I say reformed because I believe it's the most Biblical. but I'm biased, being a reformed baptist myself :)

Well I tend toward the Armenian understanding of salvation so the reformed wouldn't work. A new baptist church I attended had KJV in the pews. I wonder if that means they're KJV only. The previous church didn't like a different bible even brought in. And the pastor at one pt did a sermon on KJV - citing all the 'missing' passages in the NIV or some other translation.

I attended and became a member of a independent Baptist for a few years.

The Pastor expected you to be there every time the doors were open.

He also would dictate his own times for visitation.

Sunday morning,Sunday 3o'clock service at nursing home,Sunday night service, then chior practice after service.

Wednesday night,Thursday door knocking every other Saturday door knocking.

You know I wondered what he did the rest of the week when we were on our jobs!

Cause he sure liked to take our free time.

I go to a non denominational now, bless God nothing is said if you miss a service, and they don't do Sunday night.

Sunday morning, and Wednesday night, and some Evangelism and fellowship but no one is cracking a whip.

They preach from KJV but do not have a problem with other translation, they leave that to the
Individuals.

I'm sure there are Baptist that are the same as my Church, less legal more Jesus!
