Stick with the King James Version only. Here is a website that explains how the NIV changed the KJV and how the NIV is corrupt.

Just my two cents.

The NIV is a good translation, but today in my Biblical History and Backgrounds class, I learned that the NIV translators changed what was meant to be Hebrew in the New Testament to Aramaic, when it says en hebrion which means in Hebrew.

For a long time scholars have thought the Hebrew was a dead language during the time of Jesus, archaelogical and literture and coinage from the time has proven that wrong. They did speak Hebrew in Jesus's day

i use the NIV ....what is wrong with it?

Absolutely nothing. I use it too. They are too different translations. It's just that most people believe the King James version t be the true word of God. I do not use the King James version, because King James, although well read and very intelligent, was a master of propaganda and believed in the Divine Right of Kings; which basically states that he was chosen by God to be King of England, Scotland and France and divine rights make him an infallible ruler. If a King was evil, that is punishment from God and the people would have to suffer silently. A good king would be considered a blessing from God. King James himself only used a copy of the Geneva Bible, which is evident through his writings and poetry.
James dumped the Geneva Bible because it contradicted the divine right of kings and he wanted to deny the marginal notes in that Bible to his people. On top of that, James I was a pedophile who only became involved with young boys. Which in itself is ironic that this version of the Bible is the harshest on sexual perversion.
I have never considered the King James Bible the closest to God's word and I will never consider it such. I have studied English history all of my life and know the James I was one of the most despicable characters and rulers in the history of that country. Therefore, I refuse to use his Bible. The NIV is the way to go.
Prayers,
Jacob

Transcripts for the KJV came through the Mid-Evil times. After being copied and copied and copied. Mistakes were made. NIV comes from mostly the Septuagint (250 BC) and compared to those mid-evil leafs. NIV uses both the mid-evil transcripts and older documents such as the Septuagint.

In my opinion, NIV is a far better translations. My study bible is KJV (Dakes) but my regular bible is NIV.

and if your gonna read the bible you need to read the true word of God!

now that's really silly isnt it? I hope you are not one of those who say that only the KJV is the true Word of God, or "I only read the words in red (Jesus' sayings)".

God and Jesus did not speak in King James English. If you really want to go for the original, then learn to read the Bible in Hebrew and Greek.

Different translations are good for different purposes. eg if you are doing Bible study and want the fuller/richer Hebrew or Greek meanings, use the Amplified Bible. NASB is reputed for being one of the most literal/accurate.

Lastly, trust the Holy Spirit to illuminate verses to you and speak to you, don't put your trust in translation versions.

I have heard that the NASB is the most accurate of the common translations. The NIV is much easier to read. Our local Christian bookstore carries a 4-translation parallel bible (NIV, KJV, NASB, and I think Amplified? ).

Something like that may be what you're looking for, though the one I saw was $60 - kinda pricey unless you're real serious about compairing. Good luck. :)

I wouldnt use the KJV or the NIV they have been both corrupted and there are many errors in them.

The KJV for example was made by a King that murdered Catholics priests for celebrating the mass..and if they celebrated it in a Church the church was burnt down and the ashes ****ed on. Real good role model for a bible eh?
The KJV has over 3400 errors in it..from the simplist of words in greek.

The NIV i wouldnt use either..thats another mistranslation with over 2500 errors in it.

Try to the DRV or Douay Rheims Version..that is translated from the original sources, of hebrew, greek and latin with the help of interfaith translators..for example..the jews helped with the OT, greek scholars helped with the NT and latin scholars for both..

Unfortunately the KJV is not the most accurate translation of the God's word. If you want a translation that would be considered the most accurate word for word literal translation then you need to read the New American Standard Bible or the NASB (I believe someone already mentioned this version). There is nothing wrong with the KJV nor the NIV, which is a paraphrase. Meaning that the NIV tries to bring the meaning of the context to light without the confusing dialogue of the KJV.

However, the NASB may be more difficult reading, but if you want to really study and try and get a grasp of what the writer intended than you should read the NASB.

I'd love to have a parallel Bible, but I can't justify the expense since I have individual copies of several translations, and one paraphrase.
FYI This website had the 4 parallel bible with the NASB, NIV, KJV, AMP, hardback for $24.99. That's a savings of 25.00 bucks. Go to www.pathwaypress.com and search for their bibles.... Good luck.
