  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm getting quite sick of KJV users saying this is the only version that is recoginzed by God? Ive heard this twice in two days, its lunacy. Most of the people who say this are fundies that hate the Catholic Church. The only reason why they like it is because it is well known that King James himself was not fond of Catholics, they feel this can be the only version that is not corrupted, Fundies are really staring to bother me.

*grins* I always am tempted to ask them if they REALLY like the KJV, if they think it is the original God inspired bible and if so, why did they remove books from it later on? It's handy if you then can refer them to a museum where they have one of the original copies that still had the Apocrypha in them.

The King James Only people in my experience have always been Fundamentalist Baptists and yes, they usually do not like Catholics much. They often say that the Catholic Church is the "harlot of Babylon" and such. I personally get very tired of their anti-Catholic talk. I used to be a part of a King James Only Fundamentalist Baptist church. I am so glad that God showed me the Truth of the Catholic Church and that I left them.

Here are a few links that might be useful to you when dealing with these people:

http://www.catholic.com/library/Hunting_the_Whore_of_Babylon.asp - Because they often say that Catholicism is the "harlot of Babylon".

http://www.catholic.com/library/Is_Catholicism_Pagan.asp - Because a common thing among these people is to say that Catholicism is pagan.

http://www.catholic.com/thisrock/1995/9511qq.asp - See the third question on this one.

http://www.bible.ca/b-kjv-only.htm - This is a Protestant apologetics site I think but the links look useful for refuting King James Onlyism.

http://www.kjvonly.org/ - An entire website dedicated to refuting King James Onlyism.

I have a computer program which uses the KJV ; a CCD bible in the basement that is DR ; but prefer the NKJV or Living Translation ... better approximate the way we speak today ...

part of the problem is that many were taught that only 3 bibles were "word for word" translations :
1. KJV
2. D-R douay-rheims - catholic
3. Lutheran ; Tyndale; Cromwell ...

the bible is a "transliteration " the best english word for hebrew , greek , aramaic equivalent ...

some versions came from the Latin Vulgate , translated from greek , hebrew , and aramaic by St. Jerome

some came from the original languages ...

Problems arise with english version ... Peter , do you love me ...what is actually written
peter do you agapo me do you love me as the father loves me
peter do you agapo me do you love me as I love the father
peter do you phileo me .. love as a brother / friend

some of the words do not exist in english or are synomns ... look up honor , venerate , worship , adore in websters ... in english they are synonyms ... same word , in greek they have different meanins

for what it is worth , Paul

I like the King James Version and I am a Catholic and I love the Catholic Church too, sorry if that annoys or worries anyone.
I also like the fact that it isn't copyrighted.:)

Your correct about the kjv, its there little way of
atttacking the Holy Mother the Church. I'am a convert
and I got out of there little rat race along time ago.
Unfortually I have a brother in law who uses the kjv
to show me I'am going to hell, the turth of the manner
he does not the holy from the profane
keep in the faith

It doesn't worry me any. :) I think it is mostly the Fundamentalist King James Onlyists that most people are worried about as they are the ones that tend to be anti-Catholic.

1. these people nned to realize that most translated Bible's, including catholic versions, have been translated from the original texts of the Bible. so any catholic bible would be just as inspired as any other Bible version.

2. the KJV itself has several problems in it. like i read somewhere that the word fornication isn't supposed to be in the Bible.. or not as much as in the KJV.

people will do ANYTHING they can to make cahtolics look bad. they are so predjudiced against us. like when i was in school they would ask "are you catholic or christian" and i go "catholics are christian" and they get all weary.

but hey, now days i think more people are getting more anti baptist then anything. i've seen a lot of baptistphobes then catholic phobes lately.
