  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I know there are other threads regarding Bible translations, but I believe this one is a little different, focusing on the use of the King James Bible along with the use of other translations. This is the first time I've created a poll, so please bear with me.

Options are basically as follows:

1. KJV Only.
2. KJV Preferred (but will use at least one other translation as
secondary).
3. Highly appreciate KJV, but do not call it a favorite.
4. Won't use KJV at all.
5. Don't have a preference.

I appreciate the KJV as the cultural document that has shaped much of western christianity since its inception, but I certainly don't view it as a definitive or even particularly good translation for a modern reader to use in a devotional or scholarly context. NASB for me. (Man, I must have posted that half a dozen times this week)

Me personally, I am just happy if people pick up a bible and read it, The only bible I would not recommend is the New World Translation (NWT). And I don't really recommend paraphrase bibles, even though they are very easy to read.

I think the NIV is a good reading bible, the NASB and ESV are great study bibles and the NET notes are good for understanding the difficulties in translation, and why things are translated the way they are.

If you feel uncomfortable with any bible but the KJV, then I suggest you just stick with what you are comfortable with. But keep in mind, you really don't know several words in it, so, make sure you have a KJV dictionary to help over the hard ones. For example, "Let" means the opposite of what "Let" means today.

The "Authorized" (KJV) is my primary translation for reading, that is for just hanging out in my comfy chair ( OH NO!!! NOT THE COMFY CHAIR!!!) (nudge nudge wink wink) but when I am getting down to serious study, or if I am puttng a message together, my primary study bible is the NKJV, (and the KJV interlinear along with Strongs, Thayers and B.D.B). I also use the Amplified quite a bit in study. After I have a good Idea as to where the Lord is leading me with the message, then I break out the NASB, or the RSV. Ocasionaly I wil use the JERUSALEM , the NLT or the NIV, for specific quotes, depending upon who the audience is that I am delivering the message to.

Post Script: My ALL TIME favorite translation ( well a paraphrase actually) is the N.B.V. the New Barry Version;)

Post Post Script: The main reason that I am not a KJV only person is this, you need to be able to communicate with the person you are communicating to. Suppose that you are a KJV only person, and YHWH sends you off to the mission field, lets say to um...East of Nowhere, South Antartica. What if the locals have never heard of England, nevermind speak english, what are you goijng to use? YHWH has allways spokent to His people in a language that they can understand.

"Bumping" so as to hear other people's thoughts on this. This is a "sharing" thread only, so I am requesting, as the OP of this thread, that people try their best to stay away from debate. So far, so good.
Translations are not worth reading except to people who understand nothing else.
