Neeners, I'm not in San Francisco anymore (happily married in Texas). I went to the University of San Francisco for graduate school, and lived in the city. I wore beads to work for Mardi Gras, and people thought I was crazy. Then, I had to explain what this strange cake was that I brought to my class that night. But, I figure it was a good witness to how the church celebrates the liturgical year. One day I brought in a big yummy cake and bead, and the next night I had ashes on my head and was fasting :)

ahh ok, my brother graduated from there and now my nephew goes there. :) I hope you liked your stay in Cali for the short time anyway. I love going to San Fransisco. Our big walk for life is on the 24th in SF, many from our parish are going, I'm signed up but I don't know if I can go for sure yet.

The Walk for Life West Coast is such an amazing experience. You should definitely go if you have the chance. The focus is on the idea that Women Deserve Better than Abortion, and the usually have great speakers.

I really loved San Francisco, and I found a great Catholic community there.

What happens? How far do you walk and how long is the whole thing? I haven't gone yet.

That's what I jokingly meant. The culture there definitely leaned towards endulgence, and yet they didn't know about Mardi Gras. I would think they would be all over it. Though we should be glad they aren't :)

Well, I was going to be put a cute picture of a cake with Mickey Mouse dressed up like a King and ask you if that is what you meant but my stupid photo bucket is not working! :D I can't seem to cut and paste now, I think something is wrong with my computer!

However, I did see the King cakes. It looks like a donut. :)

I can't remember the exact about, but it's a really nice walk from downtown to a little past fisherman's wharf. There is a rally before the walk (and a mass before the rally if you want to go), and then they walk down, and at the end there are pro-life groups giving out info. I think democrats for life is there so you will definitely want to stop by :)

I think they have enough indulgence with their "sisters of perpetual indulgence" along with a few other things :o:o

However, I still love San Fransisco, there is still plenty to be proud of there. It's a beautiful city with plenty of exciting history and places to see. :) It's a big city so it has issues like any others.

It's big in St. Louis too. I also believe we have the biggest Mardi Gras celebration next to New Orleans (in the US that is). I was amazed when I lived in other cities that most people had never heard of it, or had not celebrated Mardi Gras. I love King Cake. I think I might try to make my own King Cake for Fat Tuesday this year (still too sick to try scratch baking right now).

YOu might want to try this recipe--it looks pretty easy!
