  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Kind of weird and random, but...

For some odd, unknown reason, I have recently developed a desire to buy and learn how to throw boomerangs. I know that may not be so weird to some of our overseas friends here, but it just isn't something you see every day here. I think it would be fun to learn how to do, give me something to get me outside and active, and be fun to use with my physical science students.

So, any of you guys have some crazy random stuff come up that you really want to try and get into?

I'd like to reintroduce myself to an old school Lite Brite. It was one of my favorite childhood toys.

Not long ago, I also wanted to find my set of jacks. I'd love to play a game right about now.

Keep us posted on the boomerang idea, Coach. I myself have never used one, but have occasionally wondered if it would be fun. :)

I used to play devil sticks, or also known as flower sticks. You have two sticks, one in each hand, and you do tricks with one in the middle making there 3 sticks total, by twirling it around and such. It was awesome, and I would love to find some again.

Devil sticks were harder because the ends didn't really grip as much as the flower sticks did. The flower sticks were good for beginning.

There was a youth ministry downtown the town I grew up in every Saturday night. My friends and I would turn the main section upside down with hackey sack and devil/flower sticks.

Good times.

I also want to learn to shoot a bow and arrow and get myself a bow and arrow set up. At least that actually has more uses than just being fun, like the boomerang, lol. I would love to be able to set it up and use it for hunting. I think it would be a great skill to have.

I have also decided I want to get a good slingshot and learn how to use it accurately as well. I have always liked those things, but haven't played with one in years!

My brother bought me a blowgun for Christmas years ago. Maybe I should break that back out and play with that!!!!

Some friends took me shooting a few months back, and the coolness of it really sunk in. I'd also like one for home defense.

I've been invited out to a range to practice my skills (or lack thereof), but I think I'd much rather work on my marksmanship with a bow and arrow... or knives.

No. Seriously.

I don't think there is anything random I've ever wanted to learn - unless the desire to take a cake decorating class is random.

I have likewise thought of this for several years now.

At times I've pondered learning the art of fencing.

I don't get to shoot as much as I would like, partly due to time and partly due to money. It's $10+ a box for the cheap 9mm target ammo right now, plus the cost of targets, range time, etc... My best friend's dad has a gun range membership, and we get to go with him free, but with his health on the decline, that doesn't happen much.

If I factor in range costs, target costs, water (stay hydrated, man!) ammo costs, etc... you are looking at a minimum of $25 per session, probably more because 50 rounds doesn't last long, especially when you are paying $8-10 for the range session and want to shoot as much as possible.

When I got to my parents house, lots of family members usually want to go out shooting. I don't think they realize how much money it takes. Last time I went with family, we ran through about $40 worth of 9mm and $75-100 worth of .223 in about half an hour.

I want to get back into martial arts soon. Partly for exercise and getting healthier, and partly for fun times. I love doing knife and stick work.

Is it bad that my shotgun has a glow in the dark (tritium) front site and a flashlight on the forend? lol I love that thing!

A couple of nights ago, I got woken up in the middle of the night to the sound of helicopters hoovering the area in a man hunt. I made sure my shotgun was loaded with buckshot and my handgun was loaded with self defense ammo (sometimes I forget to reload the SD ammo after the range time, and my mags are loaded with range ammo) and went back to sleep.

Like a boy scout, always be prepared :)
