  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any gun owner is foolish to vote for John Kerry. He is anti second amendment no matter how many photo ops he does showing him holding a gun like it's going to bite him. And no the government does not have the right to require me to register to own guns or tell me what kind I may own. To all of you crying out for registration, why do you want the government to control your freedoms instead of you controlling the government.

Kerry is trying to make this about hunting when it is obvious never had anything to do with hunting. He will start out banning those evil "assault rifles" and move on to hunting rifles with are almost always more powerful than so called assault rifles in the first place. It has happened in other countries. Britain began with registration and now it illegal to possess guns altogether and their crime rates have risen because of it. In Australia they confiscated thousands of people's rifles and shotguns at the threat of jail time.

As for peace through superior firepower, how do you think the cold war was won? Terrorists call us the Great Satan because they are evil fanatics who can't stand to see the freedoms Americans enjoy.

Did it ever occur to you that people are indeed controlling the government, and that they want it to know who has what gun and where? I know that's what I want.

Tell me: How are you going to feel when Rakeem the gang banger gets a hold of a bazooka, due to lack of any registration or restrictions on firearms, and decides to roll down to the rival gangs turf and level the block?

There have to be some restrictions.

Cruddy Soviet economy. Admittedly, it was cruddy because they put all their cash into building weapons. And now look where they are. "I'm poor. Want to buy some nukes, Rasul?"

If you are comfortable boiling things down to such simple black and whites, and not seeing the many shades of grey that exist between... well, that's your right.

The people are hunters, Housewives, businessmen, and anyother law abiding citizen. According to US CODE 10, All able bodied men from 17-65(having never comitted a felony) are apart of the unorganized militia. Sorry girls turn in them guns.

What I said was, the second amendment doesn't allow hunting it allows ownership of firearms by the people.

Tell the Polish resistance a pistol or rifle won't be much help. Terrorist groups in Greece have killed many officials and others with one stolen .45 cal pistol.

It's not the amount of bullets you spit out but what they hit.

I won't even touch the off topic reference, because I am afraid to ask. OB/GYN love?

Okay let's just cut to the chase here.

Are you saying that whatever anybody wants to own in the form of firearms is covered under the second ammendment because that sure seems to be what you are implying, since it was clear what John Kerry's inference was AND by further inference that there is no need for gun control laws?

Because without some form of registration or control every NUT, KOOK, AND MANIAC would be allowed to legally own whatever kind of gun he/she could afford to buy, that is why.

And the whole idea that people like you want to compare themselves to 18th centrury post revolutionary war MILITIA MEN who had every reason to NEED firearms is absolutely absurd.

You keep believing that. The terrorsit call us great satans because they think our society is decadent and evil it has nothing, I repeat nothing at all to do with freedom.

The second amendment is the way you guarantee the rest.

Any holacaust begins with removal of guns. Jews were forbidden from gun ownership. Millions walked to thier slaughter. China had no fear of running over protestors, because the protestors had no guns.
An armed society has to be respected.

Remember, all persons are inncoent until proven guilty. So why punish the 96% of legal gunowners?
PEACE THROUGH SUPERIOR FIREPOWER, and martial arts.(martial arts=the art of combat)

Well regulated? How do you regulate a militia that has no firearms training?
Firearms ownership is the way for average people to practice on their own and in return costing less to train.
Registering your weapons, taking mandatory gun safety classes, waiting periods, background checks, mandatory safety devices and the like are designed to allow the law abiding citizens to own weapons while preventing needless deaths. Anyone who refuses to be open about their ownership of a weapon is suspect in my opinion.

No one suggested a complete ban on personal ownership of weapons.

Are there any weapons you feel should be off limits to personal ownership. You mentioned RPG's. Should anyone be allowed to have one without registering or having a background check. Why or why not? How about a flame thrower? Why or why not? Attack helicopter? I mean, why punish everyone just because some wack-o might kill someone, eh?

Ohh and welcome to CF

It has a lot to do with our freedom. We broadcast debauchery across the planet on our airwaves and through the products we sell. We are free to do such things.

Did he really use that grammar? He just lost my vote.

...and what's wrong with hunting with an AK? Doesn't he realize you can mow down an entire herd in less than a minute? That's good eats!

Personally, I'm trying to pull a bovine tag this year...those things are everywhere.

Thanks for the welcome. :)

Let me elaborate a little bit. I think there should be some control. I support the current Instacheck system that makes sure you are not a NUT, KOOK, or MANIAC before you purchase a firearm.

However, once you have passed said test I believe you should be able to own any type of firearm you wish. I do not include tanks and bazookas in that category, not to mention it would be exceedingly difficult to get such a thing restrictions or not.

The American populace is akin to 18th century militiamen in the fact that they will be helping the army fight if ever invaded. It is difficult to hold a country where every home may hide a rifleman waiting to repel foreign invaders. Do I think this is likely to happen? Probably not. But I would much rather have us be prepared than not.

Not to mention the woman who NEEDS a gun to fight off a potential rapist. Many groups seem to believe that pepper spray is going to stop a 200 pound rapist. It won't.

As for terrorists, they hate the fact that we have the freedom to be as decadent in their eyes as we wish. If they had their way, it would be the rule of law that no woman could show her face or legs in public. That is what I meant by them hating us for our freedom.

God bless.

America that God fearing and caring nation that tolerates the murder of 25000 of it's citizens per year of which approx. 12,000 are handgun murders. Good show.

Of course to preserve those freedoms one has to break a few eggs for the omelette of freedom.
Guns are the weapon of choice in murders. Good thing we have them or we would have to outlaw baseball bats. Eliminating weapons won't make people nicer.

A terrible argument. Guns are so lethal in comparison. It's a lot harder to kill with a bat or knife. Most people after the first swing or stab recoil at the horror and flee. This is a known fact. The problem with the bullet it it's far more likely to be fatal on the first use.

What really pains me is that you thought I was serious.

To add to your point...no bystander has ever been killed by a stray baseball bat.

I can argue either side of this one...just don't make me give up my guns.

Do you propose we modify the constitution?
