8/27/02 Update:
Over the last two years, I have learned what Nehemiah must have felt like as he
labored to build for the Lord and fought to defend his work at the same time.
For now, all is quiet on the home front in our battle with the county. (See
http://www.drdino.com/cse.asp?pg=articles&specific=38 if you dont know the
whole story.) In spite of the opposition, our Creation Museum building has been
done for over a year now and is receiving hundreds of visitors. We are have
lots of pictures (http://www.dinosauradventureland.com/dal.asp?pg=pictures) of
the progress on our site. I still travel every week and am now starting to
schedule more meetings for 2003 and 2004. I had slowed down some to devote more
time at home.
Several weeks, ago the county building inspectors scheduled a hearing with Judge
Geeker to tell him how urgent it was for him to issue an order to stop us from
building our new Science Center building (which we are also building without
their permission.) They showed him some really nice pictures of our progress!
Much to the countys dismay the judge said he would do no such thing since this
battle has been going on for nearly two years and he could see no "urgency"
about the situation. Praise God! We continue to build and win souls. The next
court date is October 15 for jury selection. Any one of the people mentioned in
the last update can still step in to stop this senseless waste of the taxpayers
(and Gods) time and money so, please, keep writing them and praying for them.
The beautiful new three-story "hands-on" science activity center (mentioned
above) is 85% completed and should open in about two months. It houses our
giant fossil dig pit with a 40-foot Tylosaur for the kids to "find." It will
also house our expanded bookstore, scores of indoor science activities for kids
of all ages, a large "geologic column" showing a petrified tree running through
the layers, lots of fossils, life sized dinosaurs and lots of live animals.
Very importantly, it will give us some much needed office space for our growing
staff.
We now have pictures
(http://www.dinosauradventureland.com/dal.asp?pg=newbuildings) of the Science
Center building progress on the web site. Our little kids playground and
activity center has been a great success. Only kids five and under are allowed
inside to use the mini-cable slide, swings and the soon to open Dino 500
racetrack! Parents love it!
A fence surrounds the entire parking area where we proudly display the names (on
a dinosaur, of course) of those individuals or businesses that sponsor
(http://www.dinosauradventureland.com/dal.asp?pg=sponsor) our ministry with a
yearly tax-deductible gift of at least $500. Contact maury@drdino.com, if you
would like to help support our efforts for the Lord.
In spite of the continuing legal battles, God has blessed as we now have about
2,000 visitors come through Dinosaur Adventure Land each month. We have
hundreds of lost people come and hear the salvation and creation message, many
for the first time in their life. Paul used creation as a means of evangelism
in Acts 17 and we have seen first-hand that this is a great way to open people
up to the gospel as well. We have an incredibly talented staff that all have a
burning desire to reach others with the gospel.
Our next big building project will be to add 12,000 square feet more to our
Creation Museum. Many people have loaned or donated some really awesome items
for display and we need to expand again soon. We then hope to quit building
here for a while and help others build a Dinosaur Adventure Land in their part
of the world. If you have an interest in seeing a creation-based museum, theme
park and science center in your area, please, let me know.
Speaking of Maury, in spite of his health problems he has been able to use his
legal expertise to help resolve quite a few conflicts regarding religious
discrimination in schools. This part of our ministry is available to protect
the rights of students and parents. If you dont want your child taught
evolution or they are ridiculed for their belief in creation, contact us with
the details ASAP.
Why not schedule your next vacation to Pensacola? We have the best beaches in
the world. Also, there are four Christian colleges in town and many people will
be bringing their kids down in the next few weeks so schedule some extra time
and come visit our ministry! We are easy to find. There is a map
(http://www.dinosauradventureland.com/dal.asp?pg=directions) on our web site.
