Conservative justices' complaints that congressional oversight is unconstitutional will backfire in the long run, I think.
We have heard some horrific stories of lavish gifts and benefits from conservative 'friends,' many of whom are involved with cases before the Supreme Court.
#1 offender (or beneficiary?) is Justice Thomas. Half-million dollar private plane vacations over twenty years, mother's house purchased and renovated--while she lives there rent free, beloved grandnephew gets free tuition at $72K per year prep school. Wow!
#2 offender is Justice Roberts, whose wife earned $10 million in commissions recruiting lawyers for firms that frequently appear before the Supreme Court.
#3 offender is Justice Alito, for accepting private plane Alaskan fishing trips.
This has damaged the reputation of a very unpopular (and unbalanced) Supreme Court. Progressives and moderates can now feel justified in their complaints about the 6-3 court since their million dollar "gifts" have been revealed. "Not only do they make bad decisions, but they're crooks," liberals think.
And the more they get on their high horses and defend their special privileges, the more they stay in the headlines and the more dishonest they seem.
They should just let Congress force them to be honest and live on their salaries (of $275K for five months' work) like the rest of Americans have to.
