  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

just wondering!

The bible is ludicrous?? What a direct insult to God almighty who inspired every word of it not to deceive us or for us to interpret in whatever way suits us- but to guide us and teach us to be more like him. If the world says evolution is fact and the bible disagrees- I will follow the bible.
Despite you committing Bibliolatry which really bothers me, if you accept the Bible over science, why don't you believe the Sun revolves around the Earth, or the Earth is flat? Both can be supported by Biblical verses, and both were believed by the ancient Hebrews.

The more "accurate" scientist get to the origin of life- the farther from the real truth (which is God inspired and can be found in the bible) that they get.
Evolution has nothing to do with the origin of life.

What turns people off to christianity is that you have christians who say that we should trust the world rather that the contents of the bible.
Take it from someone who was a YEC Biblical literalist for 3 years on the largest atheist board on the internet. People are turned off from Christianity due to the absurdity of things like a 6,000 year earth or global flood, and that there is no evidence.

The world is God's creation. Why shouldn't we trust it? Do you dare question God's observable creation?

If they can't believe the bible- why in the world would someone want to become christian?
Most unbelievers will never believe the Bible because it's circular logic. Believing in the events of the Bible because the Bible says so is not going to convince anyone.

If you can interpret the bible to really mean something else- they could someone tell me why the tower of Babel story is in the bible anyway?
Allegorical story to get a theological message across.

I would just like to hear the views of someone who is choosing to substitute their knowledge over the infinite wisdom of the one who inspired it. Tell me- answer for God- what was he meaning and why did he not just really say what he meant.
Because the ancient Hebrews couldn't understand nuclear fusion, sedimentation, evolution, plate tectonics etc.? They would have had no clue what God was talking about and the theological message would have been clouded by the complexity of scientific knowledge.
Why is he trying to confuse us and turning people away because the book we are supposed to live by is not really true?
Why is he trying to confuse us by making his observable creation completely disagree with the literal account of the Bible? A universe with 4.5 billion years of history not just age, if it was created 6,000 years ago is deceptive and confusing. So one should ask you why God is deceiving us if Genesis is literal. Romans says we can clearly see things in the things he's made. We can't clearly see anything in creation if a literal Genesis is right.

If you interpret the bible- how can you be sure that Jesus is really a savior? Perhaps this is just a symbol for something else. Once you create a new meaning for anything in the bible- anything other than how God intended it- you are destroying the credibility of the entire bible because it is left open for people to dissect- rejecting any part that is too difficult, unpleasant to follow.
You interpret the Bible the second you open it. It is in a different language which means translators had to reinterpret some of the Hebrew since many words and verses in Hebrew make no sense in English. Everyone on Earth interprets the Bible, even you. It's inevitable.

Of course- no one understands why God works the way he does- why he imbedded age into the Earth. I can say for sure it was not to deceive us. But do we really understand anything about God?
If it wasn't to deceive us we shouldn't be able to accurately investigate the entire universe and find everything in contradiction with the Bible. Embedded age is called the Omphalos argument. How do you know God didn't create everything last thursday? The Earth and universe have 4.5 billion years of history. Craters, fossils, starlight, etc. etc. that all contradict a 6,000 year old universe.

The problem is that people are getting "too big for their britches", thinking that their wisdom exceeds what God has said. What an ego these people have!!!!
And no exception for you either thinking your interpretation of the Bible is the only correct one and everyone else is delusional. What an ego you have!

Are you trying to get me to leave? LOL!! Is it that I am making you uncomfortable becuase I choose to walk totally in faith and follow the bible everytime instead of the world?? If that is the case- perhaps it is the HS convicting you as to the error of your ways.
Once again implying that those who do not read the Bible your way are lacking in faith and following the world. Is this getting old for anyone else?

Yes, yes it is. And in her earlier post she said that we have a huge ego for not following her interpretation of the Bible. How dare we investigate God's creation. It will only send us to Hell!

There are quite a few differences between the English translations and the Hebrew. Genesis just being one problem since Bereshit is read quite different in Hebrew than in English. It is a fact that there are copyist and translation errors in the Bible. Even Christian apologist sites admit this. You can't not accurately translate everything from Hebrew to English. It just doesn't work.

And how do you know your version of the Bible is right? You do know there are many other scriptures that aren't part of your particular Bible right? Why is your Bible right, and the Catholics Bible is wrong?

Well, I can't discuss why I feel the catholic bible is wrong on here because some things I say would be against the rules but I am sure that you know why or you would be catholic.

No- it will not send you to hell. Read the entire thread- I didn't say being TE makes a person not Christian!

Not my interpretation- IT IS LITERAL or God would have said so. If the tower of Babel really has a different meaning- then most people would not be able to just pick up the bible read it and have a relationship with God on their own. If that story is really about something else- how will the average person know what to beleive and what not to?

I'm not Catholic or Protestant, so why should I accept either groups Bible version? Of course the Catholic church created the modern Bible, so if anyone were to be more accurate, I would think it would be them. While I disagree with a lot of Catholicism like the exaltation of Mary, they have existed for almost the entire history of Christianity. Protestantism is very new and didn't decide what is part of the current Bible.

Stop using AIG for your arguments. They do not do science, and are completely wrong in everything they post. They aren't much better than Kent Hovind.

Exactly my point!! You are saying- stop using the bible to support your beliefs!! Trust the world and reject what the bible which is God inspired has to say!

I would turn this entire question back onto you. Where does it say that it's literal? Before the Enlightenment, people would naturally have read it as legendary. Legends and allegories were the normal way of communication - not dry histories. Have you ever read any medieval histories? They are chock full of legends presented as fact.

i figure that my time here is well spent is i can just show one person that everything they read, including the Bible, must be interpreted as part of the very act of reading (or hearing).

That no human being is able to hear words in their native language without trying to extract meaning from them and that this process of taking sounds and creating meaning in your head is interpretation and relies a lot on what is already in your head.

Don't know yet. Haven't decided on my views yet. Leaning towards annihilation, but that's off topic. Eternal torture is not only a contradiction of God's loving, good nature, but it makes Hitler look like Mother Theresa.

Don't misquote him. He is saying to stop using AiG, which is NOT the Bible.

No, I'm saying stop using the Bible to come up with scientific explanations. The Bible isn't a science book. AIG is trying to pretend it's a scientific organization. It isn't.
