• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

why is it that when we have these intrusive, unwanted, blasphemous, thoughts we believe in God's omniscience,(having infinite awareness, understanding, and insight);in other words that He knows that we have the thoughts. But when it comes to believeing that God knows that we dont mean to have these thoughts and that we are disturbed, anxious, fearful, and that we dont want to have these thoughts some how we have a struggle to believe that God understands.just wondering any thoughts?

Great clarity there. Each and every time I talk with someone about the subject I face this hurdle and it is always the same. Whomever I am talking with thinks that they are the one person who cannot be forgiven or understood as ill and not responsible for the things they think or say.

That is the true nature of OCD I guess. It lies to all equally. We are always our own worst enemy also. Nobody can hurt me like I can.

But God does know what you face. He does understand. and someone with OCD is covered with grace for all.

Well done - You have shown (or should it be 'blown'!) a gaping hole in the pseudo-logic of OCD!

A similar phenomenon occurs when OCDers take one verse and focus on it, believing that God will do what they think he says he will do there, yet when faced with the overwhelming grace of the rest of the Bible have trouble believing that they can be forgiven. I fall squarely in this latter group, even when I point out the illogicalities to myself.

HI Renewedmind,
I know it's illogical isn't it. :/
I've come to the conclusion that when I'm in a bad OCD flare... my emotions trump my logic. In other words the fire alarm is blaring so loud that I can't seem to ignore it. It feels so horribly urgent and scary that I'm tricked into thinking that it actually might be.
Learning to disregard the misfiring in my brain as lending validity to the obsession is really hard. All my instinctive nature is telling me - "Pay attention to this! It's of extreme importance!" Instead I have to do the exact opposite if I'm going to break the OCD cycle.
Praying for you.
