LDS DOCTRINE
"I will preach on the plurality of Gods.
I have always declared God to be a distinct personage, Jesus Christ a separate and distinct personage from God the Father, and that the Holy Ghost was a distinct personage and a Spirit: and these three constitute three distinct personages and three Gods."
Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, compiled by Joseph Fielding Smith, 1976, p. 370 "In the beginning, the head of the Gods called a council of the Gods; and they came together and concocted [prepared] a plan to create the world and people it."Joseph Smith, 1844, History of the Church, vol. 6, p. 308
"How many Gods there are, I do not know. But there never was a time when there were not Gods and worlds.
" 2nd Prophet Brigham Young, 1859, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 333"Joseph Smith taught a plurality of gods, and that man by obeying the commandments of God and keeping the whole law will eventually reach the power and exaltation by which he also will become a god."Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, 1954, p. 98
BIBLICAL TEACHING
TRINITY: One God who is revealed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
MATTHEW 28:19:
"...baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."
THE TRINITY IS NOT THE FOLLOWING:
Tritheism: The view that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three separate Gods
Modalism: The view that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all one person or modes of manifestations
PILLARS OF THE TRINITY DOCTRINE:
THE FATHER IS GOD: Philippians 2:11
THE SON IS GOD: John 20:28; Titus 2:13; 2 Peter 1:1; Hebrews 1:8; Matthew 1:23; Isaiah 6:9; Colossians 2:9, John 1:1
THE HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD: Acts 5:3-4
Yet there are not three "Gods" but only ONE GOD:
Isaiah 43:10-11; 44:6, 8; 45:21-22; 46:9 ISAIAH 44:6, 8: "I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any."
DO WE WORSHIP THE SAME CHRIST?
LDS CHRIST
"In bearing testimony of Jesus Christ,
President Hinckley spoke of those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints do not believe in the traditional Christ. No, I dont. The Traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak.
"Church News, June 20, 1998, p. 7
"The Father of Jesus Christ is our Father also.
Jesus, however, is the first born among all the sons of Godthe first begotten in the spirit, and the only begotten in the flesh. He is our elder brother.
All men and women are in the similitude of the universal Father and Mother, and are literally sons and daughters of Deity."Encyclopedia of Mormonism, vol. 4, 1992, p. 1670
"As for the devil and his fellow spirits, they are brothers to man and also to Jesus and sons and daughters of God in the same sense that we are."Historian John Henry Evans, An American Prophet, 1933, p. 341
CHRISTIAN CHRIST
JESUS CHRIST: The Bible warns about those who would proclaim a differentJesus other than the Jesus of the Bible. Far from being our so-called "spirit-brother" who earned His Godhood by obedience, there was never a time when Jesus did not exist as the one true God who created everythingincluding Lucifer and his angels.
2 CORINTHIANS 11:3-4:
"But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached
ye might well bear with him."
JOHN 8:23:
"And he [Jesus] said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world." HEBREWS 7:3: "Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually."
COLOSSIANS 1:15-17: "Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him; and he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
that in all things he might have the pre-eminence."
