  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Phil, I live in Delaware, second smallest state in the union. My town is about 15 miles (around 24 kilometers) from the Atlantic Ocean. My town is very small, probably around 2500 people. My town if very beautiful though, it has a lot of ponds and lakes. They used to freeze when I was a teenager and we were able to ice skate on them, we don't have hard winters like that anymore. We are flatlanders...no mountains close. I love mountains though and have to go to other states to see them.

What is your town like?

We stay in the Valley Of a Thousand Hills, but no mountains. We stay close to a town, but our mission is in the rural area or in the sticks as we call it. Where I grew up in the Western Cape(close to Cape Town), I was surounded by mountains. I love nature and have been trying to get some of my friends motivated to go backpacking, but to no avail. Who knows, maybe one day I will convince them to go for a walk. We stay about 30 miles from the Indian Ocean. Is the Atlantic Ocean also so cold where you stay. In the Cape we freeze when we swim in the sea, not really, but I think you get the point. I love small towns. That is why I love the mission. We have about 1300 people sleeping here on average per night.
I would love to come to your country one day, but first I want to go to Israel. I want to see where Jesus and Paul walked. See the things they saw. I have been dreaming of that day forever.
Have you been in SA?

The Atlantic Ocean where I live is fairly cold until the middle of the month of August..then you can comfortably swim in it. I love going to the beach and watching the bottlenose dolphins, they are beautiful. You can tell when the water is getting warmer, their bellies turn pink. It's cute when they have babies with them because the babies have to surface more often then the adults so you can see them more often. It seems like they go south in the morning, around 10 am and then back north around 3 pm. I guess they are eating.

Backpacking sounds like fun. Whenever I get to the mountains I like hiking them. I feel closer to God on a mountain.

Hi all!

It's 21:47 & I thought I'd check CF before turning in. The shopping is done, Wendy & Da Boyz are asleep & the only noise in the flat is Scabbers the hamster scurrying around in his cage.

Philippe, of course Wendy had to learn Afrikaans at school & pass an Afrikaans competency test to get into UCT (the University of Cape Town, for all you North Americans). But since moving here 17 years ago & having to speak/read/use Hebrew, she has lost most of her spoken Afrikaans (although she says that her ability to comprehend spoken & written Afrikaans is still OK). Occasionally, when her Mom comes for a visit or we go to Cape Town, & they don't want me to know what they're talking about, they'll attempt to converse in Afrikaans.

You mentioned wanting to walk where Jesus & Paul walked & see the things they saw. One of the things that I love about leaving here is that the Bible is not just a book on the shelf, it's all around you, it's your travel guide. I love being able to drive around, go on a hike, etc. and looking up in the Bible what happened at that spot. It makes it come alive. I've seen what is reputed to be the well that Joseph's brothers dumped him in; I've been to the spot where David duked it out with Goliath; I've visited the graves of Rachel, Samuel and Samson; I've been to Mt. Tabor, Mt. Gilboa, the Sea of Galilee, etc., etc. It is wonderful and I never get tired of it!

I look forward to welcoming all of you here very soon &, Bibles in hand, driving around the country.

Good night!

Dear SSV,
I promise that I will come and look you up when I come. I would love it if you could show me those places. Well it is bedtime here in SA too. Quickly going to post something in Deeper Fellowship and then I am off to bed. It will be titled The great I AM. It is an e-mail I got from Prof. John Henry from England.
Anyway, Good night.
God Bless

Hi Lb! Life is great!!!

Wow! There sure was alot of posts on here to read today. I enjoyed each and every post.

I just wish I were more interesting...so, I could share some cool stories, like places I have been and such. I just dont travel at all. If I did travel though I would take ssv up on his offer and let him be my guide through Isreal. I told my husband today that if I were to ever want to see any other country it would be Isreal. I know the pictures that ssv has shared with us, like the parks...it is beautiful.

 Hugs to everyone.

FP,
Everybody is interesting in their own way. Go and read my posting in deeper fellowship called The Great I am. You will see there just how special you are especially to Christ. To all the others good morning. It cold and wet today. The way I like it. I thought the summer was not going to end at all. We have a bit of a drought here in South Africa and the farmers are really suffering(please keep them in your prayers), but God has been gracefull to us and has given us enough rain her on the mission.

SSV,
I have to decided to save up and come to your country. It is one of the few things in life I really wanted to do. If it is the Lords will I am sure He will make away. I hope to meet you on my travels.

Phil

Phil, I enjoyed reading The great I am. :)

We all touch each and every person we come in contact with in some way or another. I hope I am only touching those that I come in contact with in a good way. I pray alot for God to guide me through my day. He has blessed me each and every day of my life and I am greatful for the life that He gave me. I truely am greatful for this friendship thread too. All of you are great people.

 Hugs to you all !!!
