  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all!

Ah, but it's good to be back. How is everyone? Last week was a nuts week here at the office, hence my cybernating.

Passover (which begins next Monday evening) cleaning (see 6th and 7th bparagraphs at http://www.jewfaq.org/holidaya.htm) is upon us in earnest. Our bedrooms are now "kosher for Passover", i.e. we've cleaned them very well & have told Da Boyz that no food may be brought into them. One of our town's two chief tabbis came to our synagogue to speak during Shabbat (Sabbath) morning prayers yesterday morning. He noted that the leavening (in the leavened grain products that the Torah commands us to rid our houses of before Passover, see Exodus 12:15) is symbolic of spiritual leavening, i.e. human pride and self-centeredness (when grain is leavened, it rises & puffs itself up; when we are gripped by selfish pride & self-centeredness, we become similarly "puffed up"), and that as careful as we are to rid our homes of physical leavening, we must rid our hearts of this spiritual leavening. The latter, of course, is far more difficult.

Be well!

ssv, I had missed you and had been in prayer that neither you nor anyone in your family had been hurt..
I had been missing him as well and pray for him and his family to be safe.

Thank you for sharing the symbolism about the leavening, very good insights
I'll second that!!!

I have been doing alot of cleaning here lately too...Spring cleaning time. It is amazing no matter how clean you keep your house all year (I am a bit of a neat freak), come Spring time there is always hidden clutter to find and throw out. I have cleaned out all the drawers, cabinets, closets in the bathroom, Living room, Kitchen and dining room...next is all of the bedrooms. I cleaned out my end of the closet in me and my husbands bedroom, but next I will move on to each of the two girls bedrooms. My youngest daughter is pack rat...there is no telling what I could find in that girls closet.

It has been raining all day here. It started out as a fine misty rain, now the drops are getting heavier. The grass is starting to grow and becomes more green each passing day though. The grass looks so much better green than brown. Spring is here...

I hope everyone has a very blessed day.

Hi all!

I thank everyone for their concerns & their prayers! We're fine (thank God!).

As I gave Naor (not yet 3.5) his breakfast this morning (a rice/corn cake with natural peanut butter & carob spread), I asked him about what he has been learning in pre-nursery school about Passover & telling him a few things as well. All of a sudden I got all emotional. I remembered Exodus 13:8

And you shall tell your son in that day saying, saying, "It is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt."
Here I was telling my son and helping to forge another link in a 3,500-year-old chain.

Be well!

FP, it sounds like you've been busy! You know we get out "spring cleaning" concept from what ssv was telling us about cleaning for the upcoming Passover celebration. Pretty cool.
Yes, I have been really busy.

That is really cool with the symbology of "Spring cleaning"!!!!

...still have alot of work to do.

ssv... you said that you were talking to your son about Passover and what he had learned at school...are the schools over there different than ours as far as teaching of religion and such? Or, does he go to a private school? As you probably already know, our private schools would be the only ones to teach about religion. The children in our schools can talk about it and pray silently and such, but teachers are not aloud to talk about religion at all.

Everyone have ablessed day!!!

Hi all!

FervidPrincess, Naor (not quite 3.5) goes to a state, religious pre-nursery school (http://tinyurl.com/28qk9). Yohanan (7) goes to a state religious (see http://tinyurl.com/335ac, scroll down to the 2nd paragraph) primary school. Even the state secular schools teach about the Jewish holydays. The schools are different here regarding teaching religion; Bible (the Tanakh, which is what we call what you call the "Old Testament") is a required subject in all schools in the Jewish sector, whether religious or secular. (The Christian, Islamic & Druze religions are similarly taught in the state schools in those sectors.) There are private schools, both religious & secular; their curriculums are subject to supervision & approval by the Ministry of Education.

Howzat?

Be well!

Hey ya'll! I'm still kinda new to CF, but I love it so far. It's hard to keep up with everything ya'll talk about because there is so much, lol...but I'm getting better at it.
How has everyone's day been? Mine was good...it was raining this morning, then it was hot and the sun was shining, now it's supposed to rain again. Weird weather, but I like this time of year...my Spring Break is next week, so I can't wait for that!!!
Well, I hope everyone is having a good evening!
