I've heard her referred to as the Bride of God. I think it would be blasphemous to think that God would consummate with anyone that wasn't his Bride. It's kind of a human way of explaining something completely beyond our understanding though.

Actually I might be mistaken in this. I can't even find a reference to her as Bride of God. I'll have to look more into it because I swear I've heard it.

From the Orthodox Church in America website:

“Why do we call the Virgin Mary ‘Mother of God’?” we are asked by the visitor to our sacred services, “God has no mother.” Of course not, but the only-begotten Son of God, equal to the Father and the Holy Spirit, entered the world through Mary’s womb, and for that we celebrate her as the bride of the Holy Spirit. The Greek term Theotokos means just that; i.e., God bearer. "

That's what I thought. It's something we cannot explain. It's something I'd leave to mystery. Something we'll ask God when we're in Heaven, y'know. Agree?

Do you Orthodox believe Mary is the wife of the Holy Spirit?

only in the sense that Christ was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary.

By the way, I'm Orthodox, but if by "slave to Mary" you were referring to something in a prayer to Mary, I wouldn't take the wording too literally. "Slave" here means more or less "servant."

If you find that RC devotion to Mary can be excessive, that'd one thing, but I don't think there are good grounds to get hung up on the word "slave."

You may find the same in Orthodox prayers - that is, some wording that seems extreme or excessive. It helped me to let go of my "scripture only" literalism.

Will do my best. I tend to look for articles that mention the differences and why they differ. I want to see what side I'd fit best on, y'know.
Just keep in mind that there is Truth with a capital T. One single true Truth. It took forty years for me to feel like the Truth fit but it was because I was the one that needed to change. The Truth was always there to be found. I’m so glad He is patient. I hope that makes sense.

I'll keep quiet, I have a long way to go in Orthodoxy. One day though :)

Edit: It's difficult when you're excited about discovering something. I apologize.
I don’t think you did anything that you shouldn’t have. You had some good posts

With regard to Rome... I've said it before, I'll say it again:
Five EQUAL Patriarchs, working together.. ONE decides to go off, and change how things are done... Who left whom?

The Latin rite split off in the 11th century because she was anathematized by the others for heresy.

No, splitting off is part of what CAUSED her to be anathematized for her hersey

What specific event does this refer to? Is it something other than the mutual excommunications of 1054?

it is. Cardinal Humbert slapped the bull of excommunication during the Liturgy at Agia Sophia, and it was the Orthodox who followed him to try to prevent excommunication, and it was Rome who refused. it was only after that, that we excommunicated them.

Was interested in Roman Catholicism, but I was having some curiosity about something.

Fr. Victor E. Novak. An Appeal to Traditional Roman Catholics From an Orthodox Catholic Priest / OrthoChristian.Com

I read this article and it said that the RCC broke the pact of the 5 patriarchates and split off into its own thing in the 11th century A.D.

Is that in fact true? The Bible verses in John 15:1-11 made a whole new level of sense to me. It seems like the RCC is wanting the OC to come back to them when it's the RCC that needs to come back into Orthodoxy.

Correct?
It is something similar to what you mentioned here that got me seriously looking at Orthodoxy rather than just Rome as I have been looking for the Early, Apostolic church.(I am Lutheran)
A good timeline that shows the split is in Father Marc Dunaway's booklet "What is the Orthodox Church"
The EO has remained one line, Rome had lots of split offs.
But there are plusses and minuses to both East and West. I'm still discerning.
It's making my head spin around like on a swivel. First East but then West. Then East, ect.
