• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello

I just wanted to come in and introduce myself...I was recently diagnosed with BPD. My name is Kate, and I'm 17 years old from Arizona, USA. I struggle quite a bit with an eating disorder [anorexia] and major depression.

I didnt know this place existed. Maybe it will help provide some relief:prayer:

Best wishes
Kate

Hi Kate,
I hope you are in therapy or treatment for the eating disorder. You are not alone in this, and there is hope. I used to be diagnosed with BPD, but my therapist changed my diagnosis a year ago to Personality Disorder NOS. I have been successful in eliminating most of my symptoms.

God bless you in your journey.

Hugs,
Trish

My dd has been unoffically diagnosed with BPD she is only ten and they will not give her an official diagnosis because of her age. It is a great struggle for her. She sees a therapist and takes meds. We pray a great deal she is working on it and makes daily progress. I will add you to my prayers. One of her biggest struggles seems to be impulse control. Are you taking meds or seeing a therapist. If you need to talk you can always PM me.

Dear Pure Grace,

I am sorry to hear you have a mental illness and a eating disorder. I have a mental illness, I am diagnoised with schizoaffective, it is a complicated illness, but can best be described as a thought disorder combined with a mood disorder. Without my medication I could not function outside of a hospital. I am so glad to have my medication, but they charge too much for it. Will someone please explain to me, why does the mentally ill have to pay for their medication in America? It makes no sense to me whatsoever? Do, we all function so well that we can all hold good paying jobs? It don't make sense. Why spend billions of dollars to fight endless wars against Jihadists who live in a desert in caves some of them, and not pay for my medication it is not right.

If anybody here is having problems with paying for their health care please let me know because I have some information on how to pay for somethings if you want it. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see if anyone has any questions. Or you can post message me and I will remember too come back after that.

Believe it or not the information I have is actually hard to get, I stayed in Oregon, and they have good social services thereand I picked up a sheet a paper with good information on getting other people and organizations to pay for this.

Take care of yourselves, and good luck on getting out of therapy, it is hard to do, and impossible to get off the medication for most.

Sincerely,

Thomas

Dear Pure Grace,

I don't really understand Anorexa, because I do not suffer from it, nor have I study much about it.

Let me know if this helps, you see all those pretty thin models in like cosmopolitan, or Sports Illustrated Swim Suite edition? Not everybody is going to look like that. In fact most people do not. There is nothing wrong with enjoying a nice sensible meal and not throwing it up.

Do you remember Terri Schivao? From Florida, the women who was in a persitive vegatative state? She got that way because she was anorexic. She would throw up her meals. Thank goodness you have caught this illness in time, you do not want to wind up like her.

When you start to gain weight again, you might want to consult a dietician about eating sensibly and finding the right weight range is suppose to be normal for you, and gain the weight correctly. You have to be smart about this and their are people who can help, but you got to find the right ones.

You may even want to talk to some people at Jenny Craig and ask them are they certified dieticians, if not you will just have to go to a hospital and find one. I am a little hesitant to mention jenny craig, because they might be more trained for helping people lose weight, and not be like a regular dietitician who might even specialize in helping anorexics. So, make sure you pick the right one for you.

A dieitician, can look at the calories you need to in take to get to normal weight, they can plan meals for you, and get caloric intake down to a science. So, I hope this all helps, and that you get better soon.

Yours,

Thomas
