  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, true, the Bible does not spell it out, but one plus one does make two.

If I am naïve, and believe someone who tells me, smoking cigars will help me grow a mustache, would you not say it is foolish to believe that?
If foolish is too strong a word, you can replace it with naïve. The Bible says it's naïve to just believe.

I used "foolish" because it adds weight to the seriousness of gullibility. ;)
Also, in this context, foolish would be fitting, imo.
same context (36)Words that are found in similar contexts
...foolish...

Perhaps I should not say the Bible says... even if the context would be fitting.
the difference between foolish and naiveis that foolish is lacking good sense or judgement; unwise while naive is lacking worldly experience, wisdom, or judgement; unsophisticated.

So, I'll accept the correction, thanks, and stick with "the Bible says it's not wise to be gullible".
You won't see that word for word, but this means the same thing.
"The naive believes everything". Proverbs 14:15

Thank you for your reply do Christians believe God created everything how can they believe if there always trying to proove it its not just the creation but the whole of scripture we have to believe even when we do not understand it.
So lets just believe Gods word without changing the words I know the bible was written in ancient languages but I trust God to give me a bible in a language I can understand.

Love and Peace
Dave
Hmm, you got an example of "they" who are trying to disprove God created everything?.

We definitely know billions of people came after scripture was written. Is God in the people creating business still or was that a six day only deal?.

How about the story of Noah ite a mirror image of what will happen in the end times our ark is the body of Christ why did God give Peter a vision of a sheet full of wild animals representing the Gentiles it was these that would enter the body of Christ its history repeating it's self.

I think you have mixed my post with CoreyD's. It was CoreyD who wrote "Even the Bible tells us that it is foolish to just believe." (Post #7). I wrote disagreeing with that, but it seems I misunderstood him, because, in view of the theme of the thread, I thought he meant that even the bible tells us that it is foolish just to believe the bible.

Hi should we just believe Gods word as it is or should we try and manipulate it to suit our theology even if we do not understand what we read should we just believe what it says its Gods word it can't possibly be wrong
When God says he created the world and everything in it then that's what he did we must believe it not disect every word of scripture trying to prove it's right or wrong all we have to do is believe.

Love and Peace
Dave
I don't think most genuine Christians manipulate the Scripture to suit their theology. (Yes, there are some that do.) But there are some very legitimate reasons for why people have different interpretations for doctrines like baptism, communion, etc. And there are some very difficult passages in Scripture that are puzzling and people interpret them differently (has anyone really figured out Revelation?).

But I do think people do a great disservice to the Word of God when they dismiss things out of hand, rejecting things that don't fit their paradigm. I remember a Sunday School teacher who would skip over "He predestined..." because he didn't want to deal with the doctrine of predestination. Another told me the Virgin Mary was a myth when it states it very plainly in Scripture. There are words that sometimes get muddled up, but all Christian churches confirm the Scriptures, as they were originally written, are inerrant. People who deviate from this notion move outside of what the Christian churches have stated in creeds and counsels for centuries.

I think most people would agree that God created all things out of nothing. That has always been the position of the church. The gray area is how did He go about that.

How can we know who is a genuine Christian only God can know but we know at the end when Christ presents himself before the Father he will have a whole multitude with him will all these be from different denominations.
I think the most important thing is Love we must love each other only love can overcome evil so let us love from the heart is it love which can bind all these churches together is no good just saying it we have to do it and show it so let us unite in love.

Love and Peace

Oh. Okay. I misunderstood.
Are you saying persons should believe the Bible without examining to see if it is true? What about the Quran? Should we believe that also? If we should not. Why not?

How would we know if the Bible is God's word, if we never examined whether that is so or not? Do you know anything about the Quran?

Hi CoreyD
Thank you for your reply we know the bible is Gods word because we are told it is

1 Thessalonians 2:13 ESV
[13] And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.

As for the Quran I can't comment I have not read it but I believe there is only one word of God and thats the holy Bible its all we need.

If you did not read "you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God", in the Bible, but instead, read it in the Quran, would you believe the Quran is the word of God?

I just wanted to know if you had a valid reason for doing so, or if you just believe because you want to.
What do you say to a person asking you this question?
Have you ever been asked why you believe in God?
Would you ever considers answering... "I just believe"?
