• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I understand. :) It's not stupid. I think it has a lot to do with habit and what we how we are use to taking care of some of our emotional needs etc. I'm glad you're seeing good results. It does take some time. I've hit a plateau now. So I'm needing to be patient. This is not easy when I'm working hard and seeing no change.

I hit a plateau for like 5 days in a row-- it was so bad that I thought my scale was broken for awhile (my cat helped me to test out that theory). Turns out that I just had a lot of food in my system-- my system isn't use to eating as many smaller meals throughout the day to keep my metabolism up. Increasing my fiber helped that while also making sure I stick to my 8+ glasses of water a day.

I use to hate drinking water and would stick to coffee, soda, or milk. And with patience, now I feel so much better when I have all that water and I barely have any coffee (one morning cup usually), no soda (stuff tastes nasty to me now), and just a bit of milk sometimes before bed. This was a habit that took me months to develop but hopefully I won't ever go back to my not healthy habit.

Wishing you Ladies the best! It's been great sharing with you both :)

Thank you. I'm a water drinker. I have been for the majority of my life. Nothing else is the same or as good for us. Water truly affects our body. Yes, fiber is very important and exercise as well in that regard helps keeps us healthy in that area as well. :)

One thing that helps me especially with chronic illness is if I can do activities that are useful. So I have an exercising bike with moving handles but I may vacuum instead of biking one day or mop floors, etc. Even singing is like physio therapy. Some people like dancing. I try things and whatever works, works. :)

I Like dancing but I need something like weights and a regular daily regime-I might try to work something out to music-I've been doing a brief 5 minute up hill walk, but I need to add something FUN like swimming-that is brief and can be worked in-a dance may be just the ticket-thanks Colleen

You're welcome. I know what you mean. If you can make it work for you and enjoy it, I think we're more likely to keep doing it. :)

The amazing strange Website on Eating Disorders is not meant as a substitution for care from your doctor. If you are in medical disaster please contact your doctor, eating disorder treatment panel

I think professional help is important but we also need help from our peers in a way professionals can't give us on a regular basis. We all need to hash things out as well as have formal help. :)

Yeah, I hear ya. I even thought my scale was broken during a couple of these plateaus and then ...the fiber started working... and all of a sudden my clothes were baggier and I got on the scale and my scale was working and I dropped more pounds.

It can just be a stumper cause you work so hard without seeing any benefit. Very cool when it does pop up in your face and the benefit does come along. :D

Yes, I'm a water drinker and my body does feel the effects of not having it. :)

Thank you for your good wishes. God bless! :)

Have you tried going to Overeaters Anonymous?

I can only speak for myself and say no. I've not needed to. I understand weight and how to loose it and I've gotten enough support so. I'm okay. CF and other people in our lives have been good for some of us. Have you personally tried Overeaters Anonymous? Did you find it helpful?

I'm sorry, I thought I was answering Grace. She said she was addicted like an alcoholic. That's how OA helps. Yes I went and it did help.

There are no meetings in my area now.

I am addicted to sugar. After days off of it, the cravings go away. The withdrawal is not easy but it's the only way for me. Binge food has to stay out of my house.

My husband died recently and I turned to sugar after years off of it and a large weight loss. I am trying to detox once again. I hate myself when I am eating without self control and know I am sinning.

Oh, sorry. Didn't mean to over step. :)

:hug:Collen, you didn't over step...I just didn't know what I was doing. New here and I don't always think clearly.

You all seem like precious ladies here. I would never attack anyone and I'm sorry to looked like that. To bad we can't hear each others tone of voice.:hug::hug:

Oh no problem. I didn't feel bothered. I just wasn't sure what / who the topic was on. No problem at all. :)

Take care :)

I was going to say join the club. Not sure if there is a club or if one should start a club. :p Any way, you aren't alone in that regard. :)

Oh I know... this is something that is going to last a lifetime (learning how to properly eat and exercise) and I just have to see it as that. It's sometimes a good thing that I'm annoyed at myself-- it can be a good motivator as long as I'm not pushing myself too hard. ;)

Yesterday was a good day-- stayed in around my calorie range, though I didn't exercise at all. Decided with the heat being as crazy as it is staying in front of the AC and playing computer games would be more entertaining. :p

This morning I learned I can briskly walk two miles in about 30 minutes-- which was really shocking for me (I'm not a person who normally walks so I was just seeing how much I could push myself since I want to try walking 2 miles every other day/every day). I also went to an OA online chat at 6am (there's a group that meets every 3 hours around the clock to talk about over eating). I'm about half way through my calories for the day and half way with drinking enough water. What stinks is that I'm already over 100% for my sugar and sodium intake! Now I need to try to find food that has no sugar and no sodium-- or hmm... maybe another day (I'm making my penne and vodka sauce tonight: a favorite in this household). I'm planning on attending another OA meeting this evening if I feel tempted to snack when I'm not hungry-- just being around people who go through the same things that I do and sharing my story seems to really help me.

Yes, I understand. I should have explained better by saying, I'm not perfect either. Some days are better and some days are worse. The thing is, considering my past, I don't believe in diets. I try to eat things in moderation and live a balanced life style. Living a balanced life is something I will be forever working on. It does get better but I realize I will never be perfect and I will always have to pay attention to this aspect of my life. :)
