Hey there Kilted Stranger! Welcome to CF. I'm a relatively new member too... and I LOVE this place. I've met some really friendly people and have found great community here.

Question: Do you wear kilts and if so, how often, and on what occasions? Sting wore a kilt to some award ceremony recently... and I know Prince Charles is seen wearing them... but I've never actually seen a regular old guy wearing one. Anyway... welcome again.

I used to wear Kilts quite alot (i used to be a member of the Scouts  !), now i only wear them on special occasions, its quite rare for someone to waer them everyday, (they are very expensive to replace, dry clean, etc) but i enjoy wearin them, (special occasions are; Hoggmannay [New Year to you], Formal Occasions, and Dances) i like wearin them to dances but you do alot of twisting and spinning so your Kilt tends to fly up.... ! and before you ask... yes i am a true Scotsman! :D and quite proud of it as well. Always nice to get a wee breeze blowing ;) ! heh heh.

God Bless

Thanks for the info! What's a Scout?? Do people still wear clan colours or do you just wear whatever plaid suits your mood?? I used to live in Hawaii... and every boy and their dog Skippy would pull out an aloha shirt or a mu'u mu'u... now you can buy "aloha wear" at your local Target store.

well, traditionally your meant to research your clan and see what Tartan your entitled to wear, but really if you see a nice Tartan you can wear it :D ! I dont speak Gaelic, but i would like to learn, im verrrry patriotic to Scotland that way.... :D .

Two Men were sitting in a Bar, an American and a Scotsman, they have a few drinks and the American blurts out "I'm from the best darn nation in the World!"
The Scotsman looks at him and says, "Really??? You have a Strange Accent to be from Scotland!!!"

heh heh! :D

:D LOL, I have never been to Scotland or anywhere in Europe but I would like to go. My ancestors where all Germanic so I love Europe. Also, do you know if Gaelic is a Germanic language? I looked into it but could not tell. The books on grammar that I found were very poorly organized.

[EDIT] So nobody is confused, the modern countries that would be Germanic are Germany, Ireland, England, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, and France. The reason France would be considered Germanic is because France was created by the Franks (a Germanic tribe/nation) but the Franks were conquered by the Romans. So, the reason the France does not appear Germanic is because the were almost entirely assimilated by the Roman culture. Also, this is the reason that English is a mix between German and Italien. England was on the outermost part of the Roman empire so it was not assimilated entirely. Also, the reason that Germany still exists is because a great German leader gathered men from all the tribes to stop the Roman invasion at the Rhine River.

O, I guess you dont know much about language, so I will explain. The Germanic languages are shown below. (from http://softrat.home.mindspring.com/germanic.html)

Well, I can not get the illustration to work but you can go to the formentioned webpage.
