• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Just a quick question.
I hope people don't mind me posting here because I don't have OCD, but I think people who do might be able to help!

If you have some negative, awful thoughts, but DONT mean it, do you think it could be a spiritual attack from satan? Or is it a form of OCD? or is it nothing and I should ignore it.

I am finding that the more I love Christ, the more I commit of myself to Christ, I find these really disturbing thoughts flood my mind.....and it makes me feel awful and guilty etc, because I don't mean it...anyway..my question is, could these things be attacks of the enemy? Or the begnning of a mild form of OCD?

I hope that someone can help because even though my issue isn't as severe as the people who post on this OCD forum, it IS something that plays on my mind....

Does Christ know when we think something unwillfully or when a thought comes accidentally, doesn't HE?

Intrusive thoughts can be a form of OCD also it could be skitzo affective. Really need a full Diagnostics from a doctor.

I was told that I was getting intrusive thoughts because my Dopamine drops down too low and stays there..

OCD and skitz intrusive thoughts/voices while they may sound from demonic spirits arent nessasary the case satan can and will by all means use it against us tho. This is where discernment from God comes into play.

Some people believe its always a demon but its an anxiety disorder that can be treated with medicine and exposure and response.

Alot of us have problems where we become irrationsal during our spikes where we are afraid of becoming condemned by our thoughts and when we blaspheme God, rest assured that God knows youre heart better than you do, He knows youre ill. This is so vital for you to know.. you NEED to know this and you must trust God.

Im not trying to scare you but if you dont it will come on heavier and alot harder because youre anxiety levels will go nuts.

Use this time to get closer to God, that is what He wants. Pray for strength and focus on one day at a time, dont worry about how youll feel tomorrow or the next day.

HI Fiona,
I had OCD for many years before I knew it. I had a picture of OCD that didn't quite fit me. I figured you had to be a person who did a lot of compulsive behaviors like hand washing, ordering, checking locks, stoves etc. I have the pure "O" form of OCD. It has picked my relationship with Christ as one of it's targets. It always picks on that which you hold dearest. This can be things like your health, your closest human relationships or your faith in God.
Although many Christians have unwanted/intrusive/disturbing thoughts pop into their head from time to time most are able to just shrug them off knowing full well that they aren't true or valid. But a person with OCD won't be able to do that. The thoughts are so unsettling and disturbing to them that they feel the need to rid themselves of them. The harder they fight the thoughts the more stuck they get in the mind. The more they get stuck in the mind the more threatening they will seem to be - they grow.
All of my compulsive activity is done in my head by endless rumination over the unwanted thoughts. When a person with OCD is in a flare these thoughts and mental wars will go on every waking minute and cause extreme emotional distress and anxiousness.
If any of this sounds just a bit too familiar to you it may be that you have the form of OCD called pure "O". It's best to discuss this possibility with a Dr. who specializes in OCD.
As far as your question about what you should do about these thoughts - with OCD, I have to ignore them, just let them be there and not give them any attention. IF I start to ruminate about them they won't let me be.
Keep reading on the forum as there's lots of good insight here about OCD.
God Bless,
Mitzi

Hi Fiona...can't write much cos the little one isn't too happy at the moment and I've had to put him down to type but just wanted you to know that I can relate to what you're describing. I've had itnrusive thoughts that really horrify me that I could get them...including images as well...like I think has already been said it's best to check out if it is OCD or not by getting a diagnosis but I definitely encourage you to seek help sooner rather than let it get worse. Hope things improve for you soon...take care, Rachel

I've seen you on other parts of the forum and know you're a new Christian so it could be OCD or in my opinion it could just be the enemy attacking your faith and love for Christ. I've heard of other people that didn't have OCD have these types of thoughts. It wouldn't hurt to talk with a doctor but if you've never had any type of OCD symptoms before this, I would tend to think it's the enemy. Whatever the case, keep praying about it and God will help you through. God bless!

Could be right although I don't know the extend of your thoughts!! In the case of Satan talk to someone you trust at Church or a close Christian friend I'll be praying too!!
God Bless,
