Jury Duty

I recently received a jury summons for the week of November 4th. I have never gone into court for jury duty before, so I'm very nervous about it. Please pray that I am able to arrive on time and find the right room to go to. Also please pray that either I don't get selected for an actual trial or if I do that God would give me the wisdom to render an accurate verdict.

When I was told to report for jury duty, some ten years ago, there were signs everywhere for where to report at the court house, so it was easy to find.
My case involved a medical malpractice suit that involved a woman's reproductive organs/cancer treatment.
When the judge asked me (along with everyone else present), if there was a reason I could not serve, I said I was a Christian and didn't want to hear about some woman's "organ" problems .
Too graphic for me...a male.
He let me go !

Dear Lord, Please help William go through the jury process smoothly. Help him to find suitable transportation to the courthouse, the jury lounge within the building, and any courtrooms he may be assigned to. May he be placed where You want him to be and serve You for your glory and honor in this situation. In Christ's Name, Amen

I would be open to the Lord's leading and opportunity, because you never know who you might meet down there. One time I met a woman going to a design college in the area who had fallen on hard times, and I was able to encourage her and give her a copy of my community college's literary journal.

Last time I got put in selection and got rejected because it was a family violence case, and given my violent family history they thought I would be biased. Honestly I don't think that there is much prospect for me getting stuck on a jury anymore, so I find being summoned more interesting and less disruptive than most.

Bring a good book with you because most of the time you will be inactive, waiting to be called.
If you are called as a potential juror, answer truthfully and let the lawyers decide whether you are right for the case or not.
Even if you're accepted, it's probably around 50 - 50 whether the trial will actually go to a verdict so.. relax!

I was on jury service once. We all found the pesky cat burgular guilty by a majority verdict. It was very satisfying.

I get call at least once a year. I have served on three Grand Juries. Those are really interesting and actually enjoyable.

My wife is going to get summoned for jury duty soon too this will be her second time. It's really no big deal they just put you in a room and ask you a bunch of questions just answer them honestly and you'll be there for most of the day. If they call on you you get paid for being a juror and get to put a criminal away. It's pretty cool.

I've never been called but my mom has had to put a murderer away before. She said it was extremely scary because the guy killed multiple people and was clearly guilty. I was a baby when this happened apparently. But yeah answer the questions honestly and the defendants lawyer will decide whether or not they want you on the jury or not. My wife's never been picked before because she's been the victim of a crime before. It pretty much excuses her from being picked but they summon her anyway every 10 years or so.

Not necessarily a bad thing!
Some lawyers know they haven't got a leg to stand on so they prefer to have dummies on the jury who might render a ridiculous verdict.

I think maybe it's because I was working in the security industry. The other person they kicked out did similar work.

Similar story here

I started out as one of the original 12 in the jury box. Then I was dismissed on the very last peremptory (where each lawyer gets to dismiss up to three people without giving any reason )

I've come to look forward to jury duty, myself. It's a great way to serve society. The jury plays a critical role in court, and they answer to no one
