Well, being an atheist, I don't believe in the concept of "sin", exactly. But I do get the idea that people mess up. People can do wrong, ranging from simple little daily life mishaps to egregious, disastrous harm to millions of other people.
I'll second what tcampen has said: some actions are better than others, and Bible-believing Christians don't always agree on how to measure "sin". But I think it's healthy to keep in mind your last words, that others are really no better or worse people than yourself, and vice versa. Nobody's perfect.
rdonovan1: That's a pretty bleak outlook on life. What happened to give you such impressions?
To make things short I've had people lie to me, steal from me, verbally and emotionally abuse me, my car has been vandalized on multiple occasions and to make matters worse neither my church nor anyone that I have even remotely trusted has been there to support me in any way.
All that I have gotten is negativity and disrespect and as a result it is making me really think that there really is no God and that the real truth and power is in what people like Hitler preached.
I have tried to stay away from a lot of that stuff by as much as possible and I have really tried to believe in both myself and in what the pastor of the church that I have been attending has been saying about peace, love and harmony, but I guess that was nothing but a load of bull as apparently no one really believes in any of that stuff and from what I can tell everyone seems to be believing in what psychology and psychologists tend to say.
Things like simple courtesy and respect as well as caring and compassion seem to have gone by the wayside as now days no one really seems to really care about anyone other than themselves.
I have tried really hard to believe in myself, to think positive and to believe that I could change not only myself, but my life around and I even had the silly thought that maybe it might even be possible to try to make at least a little bit of a positive difference in this world, but apparently no one really wants to hear stuff like that as apparently all everyone wants to hear is as to how bad things are and as to how we should all just basically think and act like people like Charles Manson and Adolf Hitler.
I personally don't like it, but at the moment I really just don't see that there is anything that I can do about it and it really makes me sad to see people think and act that way towards one another.
Even if you don't believe in the Bible simple things like courtesy, respect, and treating your fellow human being with kindness, caring and compassion should be at the top of everyone's list, but apparently it is not and at the moment I am seriously doubting that it ever can happen at all.
