You can take the boy out of the farm, But you can't take the farm out of the boy :]

"Don't give up the land."

We plan to do a bit of hobby farming, but primarily we want to set up a family home.

Amen and Amen, the farm life does teach kids the value in a hard days work, something lacking in many kids today.
We have milk goats (Nigerian Dwarf), laying chickens and guineas, but are looking into getting some Scottish Highland cattle, which should do well here in the north country.

Amen great choice :] Another easy to handle breed I hear. I was raised with herefords and black baldies. mostly with a few holsteens and a guernsey or two thrown in. {Best milkers were guernsey}
but We had a few Brangus and I didn't like them or their attitudes.

He says he wanted more notice because he wasn't prepared to support himself yet.

He should have been prepared to support himself a good ten years ago. Barring any actual disability, which I doubt.

He blames his loss of visitation rights with his son was the reason his parents ordered him out.

I'm guessing here, but I suspect the only reason his parents had allowed him to stay this long was so that he'd have a place to keep their grandchild when he had visitation.

Losing visitation rights also says something about him, because a guy usually has to be bad to lose visitation.

Maybe avoiding child support payments is a reason he hasn't worked? Men get raped by the courts, being denied custody but being forced to pay sometimes onerous amounts of child support.

I know it can be a rough world out there. MB

Maybe somebody here on-site would like to adopt this nice young man?

LOL! It sounds like this guy needs a dose of Dave Ramsey's "boot camp".

My maternal great-great grandparents (former slaves) were in the 1889 Oklahoma land rush. That farm/sawmill succored the family through the Dust Bowl and Great Depression until the uncle who controlled it sold it off in the 60s to move to Oklahoma City.

Doggone his time.

Now here we are about to retire, and after living on the other side of the planet more than once, I find myself searching for an acre of land only 50 miles from that old family farm.

Where I live there has been a resurgence of young entrepreneurs retuning to farm country to start small family farms catering to niche markets.

We contacted him and told him what you recommended.

He said he would be glad to go but, he would have to take his mommy and daddy with him as his roommates.

He stays home with them and he don't leave home without them.

I wonder does he plan on being buried with them?

I suspect that they would object to that.

Well, I have a different attitude about "onerous amounts of child support."

In Muslim countries that still commonly practice polygamy, the Islamic law is that a man must support all his wives adequately and equally (which erects a substantial economic barrier constraining polygamy).

In the West, men can practice all the "serial polygamy" they want without significant economic barrier because child support is hardly ever as substantial as it ought to be.

For men who are married and fathers in the home, how much of what we earn do we dedicate to our own lusts? Not much at all. The lion's share goes to support the family, even if our wives work, to support our children in a manner we want them to become accustomed to.

Well, if parents divorce, the cost of raising the children does not decrease. Particularly, if the wife had been a dutiful stay-at-home mother, as much of the father's income ought to go into the children's household as it had when he lived in that household...practically all of it.

Does it sound like I oppose serial polygamy?

I cannot believe you people think a 30 year old man is old enough to be out on his own. I mean you cant even get social security until you are 65. This generation owes it to their children to support them ya know. Otherwise it's deemed "judgemental"

!8 is the legal limit for responsibility for parents. When our daughter got pregnant at 15, the courts emancipated her, so mom was not responsible for her additional behavior after that. Most of her girls turned out well, as did she.

You have a very big heart and we will forward your address to the young man. But, one year won't work I think he wants to stay there till he's 82.

I will donate some Alzheimer clothing for him and mail that to you.
