Judge Moore has 30 days to remove the 10C monument from the courthouse

I think this is a win-win form everyone.  I think America has proven that religion thrives in a country that strongly separates Church and State.  Plus, it gives nonchristians the idea that they will receive fair treatment under the law.

Having read up in some of the court cases he sat on I would never expect him to give fair treatment to non-Christians.  A judge that quotes the OT in his opinion regarding a homosexual parent?  Yikes!

And this is good....because, why again?.......

Well, from the theistic perspective, its good for religion. Most things do better without government involvement.  If something is good, it will thrive on its own.  It does not need the government to help.  This is actually what amazes me the most about Republicans. They are for minimal government (good thing) in all things except religion.  They will argue until they are blue in the face about reducing the governements influence in your life - except in the case of religion.

I also believe it is a stretch to say that our country's laws are based on the 10 commandments.  Many of the commandments, if enacted into law, would be struck down as unconstitutional (I think only stealing, murder, and false witnessing would stand).  The rest would be declared unconstitutional.  How can we say that our laws are based on the 10C's when 70% of them would be struck down?

Starscream - I fear you may be right.  I really wonder how Judge Moore will react to this ruling.  It will be interesting to see.

I have to agree, sounds good to me. I can point to court opinions where a judge cited personal religious beliefs, and in at least a few cases, I think Christianity would be better off without such opinions entering our permanent legal records.

I believe it is good to try to follow the 10C, but I would much rather not have them be part of a courtroom - I follow them because they're right, and I want the courts to be based on written laws, not written laws plus differing personal moral views.

Basically, I object to the 10C being in a courtroom for the same reason that I object to the Koran being used in a courtroom, or the idea of being judged according to the Wiccan rede.

I personally don't care either way about this. I don't think this imposes christianity or God on anyone. If a judge wanted to put a Wiccan monument in the state courts building, I wouldn't have a problem with it either. Many of our state buildings have Greek and Roman Gods out front and inside, and I never thought they imposed any beliefs on me. But, I don't have a problem if people see it as the gov promoting faith, and therefore have it removed.

I think it wouldn't have been such a big issue here if he hadn't already quoted the OT several times in his court rulings. He cleary has a problem with Seperation of Church and State in general. I thinl this is just one more warning before they remove him from the bench entirely, although I think it's long overdue.
