As you may remember, Fr. David popped me into the choir before I was even chrismated. It's been quite a challenge as the tones we are using are different from the Slavic tones of the UCC and the Ruthenians. In addition, Sub-deacon Nick, who is a marvelous choir director, uses Byzantine musical notation for many of the antiphons we sing, so I am working to learn the markings and be able to sing along. Check this out -
BYZANTINE MUSICAL NOTATION!
I have come to understand some of the markings, and if Sub-deacon Nick sets the tone, I can usually follow along pretty well.
Most of the time I sing, but this morning . . . oh my! I found myself not only really singing for the Lord but realizing that the joy I was experiencing as I sung came from the knowing that I am doing exactly what I have been called to do in this parish.
This is such a great parish. There is so much opportunity to partake of the spiritual medicine which is offered to us. Beside the Divine Liturgy, there are the constant prayers: Orthros, Vespers, and an opportunity to do 3rd and 6th hours by Zoom in the morning. What a great way to begin the day!
My only regret is that I didn't get Home to the Church much earlier in life, but . . . God's purposes are good and there is a reason for everything and . . . I am Home now, and that is great, and such a joy!
Your prayers for me to continue to learn the faith will be appreciated!
Glory to God.
