That's the only one I knew off the top of my head. I'm sure if you keep looking you'll turn up more examples, although it'll take some time - mythology's a huge subject.

No. He's an OEC.

ok sorry my bad -_-, I forgot what the site was for evolutionist christians....

4. The myths don't match the specifics of the Joshua story. Was Joshua's long day ten days long? No? Then the Chinese and Indian myths can't be used as support. Does the Bible say that the night turned to day? No? Then the same goes for the Dogribs' myth. Did the Aztecs even exist when Joshua's long day supposedly happened? No? Well, then...

Myths and stories get exaggerated over time.

i agree with Vainglorious, a eclipse probably happened somtime during the reign of a civilization

An eclipse that lasts a whole day?

Do i notice a double standard there? Myths can get exaggerated when it suits you but not when it does not?

It's a logical fallacy...

Not if it's true. From CreationWiki's Policy section:

Articles should be written from the creationist point of view (CPOV), which holds that the universe and life on Earth are the result of an act of Creation by God.

They've already come to the conclusion.

As long as the references used by Bouw and Bowden are correct, there is no reason not to believe in Joshua's Long Day.

Except for the physical impossibility of the story.

In order for the sun to appear to stand still, it is the Earth that must somehow stop rotating. No known force can suddenly stop a planet from rotating as it does in the Joshua myth. And once stopped, no known force can start the planet rotating again.

But let's pretend it did happen. If the Earth's rotation stopped suddenly as stated in the myth, then the Earth's centrifugal force (derived from spinning on its axis) would crash the planet's tectonic plates against one another and cause earthquakes more severe than anything EVER, particularly in the Middle East where several plates converge. Ever fill half a bucket with water and then spin around like an ice skater? The water doesn't spill as long as you're spinning. Centrifugal force is what keeps the water in the bucket. When you stop, the water sloshes about and makes a big mess. That's what would happen to the Earth if this myth really happened. No geological evidence whatsoever suggests that a planet-wide ultra-catastrophy like this ever happened, much less one that happened about 3,000 years ago.

What if the Earth's rotation gradually slowed so as to avoid these geological consequences? The Earth spins at a speed of approximately 1,000 miles per hour. Even if its rotation slowed by a few miles per hour each year, it would still take several hundred years to grind to a total halt. This would take far too long to help Joshua. A slowing of even a few mph per day would take too long, but a slowing that happened this quickly would still generate extremely violent geological reactions.

Sorry...MYTH BUSTED.

What if the Earth's rotation gradually slowed so as to avoid these geological consequences? The Earth spins at a speed of approximately 24,000 miles per hour. Even if its rotation slowed by a few miles per hour each year, it would still take several thousand years to grind to a total halt. This would take far too long to help Joshua. A slowing of even a few mph per day would take too long, but a slowing that happened this quickly would still generate extremely violent geological reactions.

Sorry...MYTH BUSTED.

This is a very good explanation for why such a scenario is impossible with our understanding of science.

But we are dealing with the idea of an omnipotent deity here. It would not be difficult for the omnipotent God YHWH to evade all that nasty side effects of stopping the earth, in the same way the problems with the flood (or any other miracle story in the Bible) would stop him.

Not even common sense would stop him. Even if a miracle was invoked, one could ask "why go to the lengths of stopping the earth, just to give an army more time to slaughter an already beaten foe. Why not simply kill them all?"
But the mind of an omnipotent deity would not have to work along these lines. Perhaps toppling the whole system of astronomical and physical stability of the planet is the most simple idea to achive this goal that crossed his mind.

So with the idea of such a deity in the background, everything is indeed possible. Evidence becomes thus useless, because it cannot be safely attributed to any event.

For the main problem when analysing the "long day" are not any fitting or misfitting stories from around the world, but the fact that the archeological evidence points to the conclusion that the Josuanian invasion of Kanaan has never happened.

Duely noted.

You made a simple mistake, so let's add you to fstdt and let us all laugh at you![/sarcasm]

I'm not going to lower myself to their level. If you make a mistake, I'm going to tell you, and you will fix it. But if a creationist were to make a mistake, like, say for an example that the earth rotatation (relative to the universe) slowed down to up to 1 second/year when in reality the earth’s rotation(relative to the universe) is slowed down 0.005 seconds per year per year, they would get thrown into fstdt immediatly (though, nowadays every learned creationist should know that the 1s/year figure is false, the sites that have 1s/year are older sites that have made a mistake and haven't updated yet.) It probably is still pretty bad for a creationist to make that mistake. Though why don't you tell them of the mistake instead of laughing at them and telling them how "stupid" they are?

If you are against what FSTDT is doing, speak out against them, if not, then I am right in saying that this is not fair play.

Reading through just a few pages of FSTDT it becomes clear that relatively few of the entries are there because the author made a simple factual mistake. Quite a lot of the entries reflect the astonishing immorality of the people claiming to be Christians, such as those who say it's okay to lie to "defeat" evolution (CF's own AngryNotice). These folks deserve to be singled out and humiliated.

I have yet to see anybody being ridiculed there because of simple, honest mistakes - consider these three gems, currently FSTDT's top rated quotes:

"No, everyone is born Christian. Only later in life do people choose to stray from Jesus and worship satan instead. Atheists have the greatest "cover" of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims."
FSTDT! Post of the Year for 2005

"One of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn't possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it. [emphasis added]"
"Occam's Razor Disagrees" Award

"I am a bit troubled. I believe my son has a girlfriend, because she left a dirty magazine with men in it under his bed. My son is only 16 and I really don't think he's ready to date yet. What's worse is that he's sneaking some girl to his room behind my back. I need help, God! I want my son to stop being so secretive!"
Do you really want to call claims as outlandish as these three mistakes?

You know, it does make me wonder just how someone as stupid as this knew how to write at all.
