Have you ever heard of him? I doubt it, but he's a really cool musician! Heres a link to his website: www.joshuamessick.com
He plays hammer dulcimer, but he plays classical music on it along with a lot of other types of pieces. I thought it would go here best, and we've also had other threads about specific classical musicians. I just thought this guy deserved some time along with the others! His CDs are great, and Ive got both of them and never grow tired of them. Be Thou My Vision is all great arrangements of classic hymns and Stillness is just a mishmash of all sorts of things, including some classics. You can hear improvement from the first CD, but I still love them both. In Stillness, I didnt even believe that those sorts of things were possible on the hammer dulcimer. I guess theres a reason that he won first place at Winfield (where they hold national hammer dulcimer competitions along with other folk instruments) last year.
Its absolutely beautiful music and very relaxing. Ive never run into anybody who doesnt like it. (Well, maybe one person, but I wouldnt trust anything he does like, if you know what I mean.
) There are sound samples on his website, and the CDs are for sale. I would definitely recommend them.
