  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have you ever heard of him? I doubt it, but he's a really cool musician! Here’s a link to his website: www.joshuamessick.com

He plays hammer dulcimer, but he plays classical music on it along with a lot of other types of pieces. I thought it would go here best, and we've also had other threads about specific classical musicians. I just thought this guy deserved some time along with the others! His CDs are great, and I’ve got both of them and never grow tired of them. Be Thou My Vision is all great arrangements of classic hymns and Stillness is just a mishmash of all sorts of things, including some classics. You can hear improvement from the first CD, but I still love them both. In Stillness, I didn’t even believe that those sorts of things were possible on the hammer dulcimer. I guess there’s a reason that he won first place at Winfield (where they hold national hammer dulcimer competitions along with other folk instruments) last year. :D It’s absolutely beautiful music and very relaxing. I’ve never run into anybody who doesn’t like it. (Well, maybe one person, but I wouldn’t trust anything he does like, if you know what I mean. ;) ) There are sound samples on his website, and the CDs are for sale. I would definitely recommend them.

O man I know him! He's so awesome. My favorite song of his is when he plays Fur Elise. It sounds so cool on the hammer dulcimer. I've heard other hammer dulcimer CD's and they sooo don't measure up to him. And he's only 19 which is like so amazing. I highly recommend his CD's. They are awesome.
