Like I said, it's interesting to see when the shoe is on the other foot.

I kinda figured some of the people here wouldn't have a problem with this. I was pretty much right on target, too, as to who it would be.

I'll remember that the next time one of you gets offended at someone for a joke and I will point you back here.

FWIW, I REALLY love how suddenly it's those who were offended that are now racists. That made me chuckle. ^_^
I think you're being intellectually dishonest here.

Do you have a problem with this joke?

Yep. I'm the one with the problem. Mm hmm.

I'm laughing guys, really. Thanks. :D

One Direction is no laughing matter. Really. One Direction has all the smoothness of their silky voices and our young women will be drawn to their boyish good looks.

Meanwhile their vicious anti-imperialist/anti-western vitriol seeps effortlessly into our veins, rendering us incapable of fighting them when we are called upon to do so.

Let us STAND TOGETHER against One Direction. Don't let them tear us apart.

Remember: One Direction hates us for our freedom.

They have nice little accents though!

 I asked IF you had a problem with the joke - still unclear as you haven't yet said.

Not that it really matters, but I wasn't referencing your post.

I honestly don't know how I feel about the joke. I think it was done in poor taste, but that's most jokes actually.

Generally speaking I can take what a comedian is saying and realize that it's a comedian. However, Stewart (like Colbert and a few others) falls under a rather distinctive category. I think that with the fact that the fourth beheading had JUST. TAKEN. PLACE. maybe it wasn't appropriate.

I think if you're going to joke about something, you better know your material - which also means you better know your subject. I'm not sure there's too many people in media who don't know how popular 1D is. While few may know that one of their members is Pakistani, I think the people who do the show should know that.

Let me give you an example of something that is somewhat similar. Awhile back I received a message that part of a post of mine had been deleted because the person I had addressed was a German and it was offensive to him. That was quite a D'oh moment for me because I was trying to make a joke and I didn't even think about the German flag he had on his profile.

Had I taken the time to LOOK, I wouldn't have posted the comment.

That's kinda what I expect from people if they're going joke about this kind of stuff, that's all.

That's good for your health.

I enjoy laughing. It makes my coworkers wonder what I'm doing. :D

I completely agree with you here, I think if they had actually looked up the group rather than just use a random boy band for their joke, they may have used Justin Bieber instead (although the joke was pulling one person from each named group). Comedy really is about knowing your subject front and back, else you end up with stories like this.

However, what you said earlier was different from now. You argued as if they knew the kid's father was Pakistani and he was the specific member they were singling out for the joke. If they did that, that would be in poor taste, but that's not the case. Or maybe they were, but from the joke, it is not evident. I wouldn't even classify the joke as insensitive because there was no specific target, much like the teacher that called a student the N-word :)D I love that story and the parodies of it, his intent was clearly not malicious).
