• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi everyone, this topic is all about the E word, Epilepsy. I Personally was Born in 1972, and diagnosed at the ripe old age of 8. Now I understand that to some that would seem wonderful, to have 8 years with no seizures. Make no mistake though believe me, to me it was like a living hell to go from what was a normal childhood, to having to take meds to keep from having more seizures. It was a major changefor an 8 year old. But that's enough about me for now, let's hear some things about all of you.

One of my really close friends has epilepsy. Marc was diagnosed @ 4. He had his first seizure and stopped breathing, he had some brain damage due to this. He just currently got back from the Special Olympic Winter games in Japan bringing home a silver in mens free skate, and Gold w/ his fiance for pairs.

I was in a tragic auto accident at age 8, which claimed the lives of the rest of my family and left me in a coma for over a month, I wasn't expected to survive there's actually a place on the headstone left for my name. The Lord had a greater victory, however. I mostly had partials, as many as 2 or 3 dozen a day. The meds of those days didn't do much. Grand mals started about 12 years ago and slowly progressed from 1 every couple of years to 3 or 4 per year. Under better medication now, the grand mals are about 95% controlled and the partials are about 70% controlled. Due to a breakout seizure behind the wheel 3 years ago, causing a minor fender bender, we pulled my license and I have been off the road since. I am now taking classes over the internet, through the Berean in hopes of becoming ordained. However, due to so many seizures, learning seems to be a little harder these days.

Praise God, he is faithful to his word. 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 KJV

First of all, let me just start off by saying that each and every one of you are in my prayers.

I'd also like to add something that might serve as a bit of inspiration to you all. I have witnessed first hand growing up how awful Epilepsy is. My father suffered over 20 years with Grand Mal seisures and mini-seizures where he would be aware of his surroundings, but was unable to respond. As a child I would watch this happen and it was devastating, as I am sure it is even more so for those going through it

However, my father is a Methodist minister. He was a bit disheartened as to why God was not healing him of this. After many many years of suffering, he went back to the doctor for his usual check-up (MRI, etc.) and they found absolutely nothing wrong with him. He was on heavy doses of medication, and now barely takes any. He does however still take the minimum requirement as stated by the DMV. The Lord has healed him, and he has been seisure free for many years now. Know that the Lord is with you at all times, and that He will do the same for you. God bless you all! :prayer:
