  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi I want to join the English army and train to be a doctor with them. My dad was in the army and my grandad and so it seems natural for me to. However I think I dont know if I could cope with having to be away from home so much. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or any experinces of being away and if you have had to go how do you cope? Any comments would be very much appreciated. Thanks. xx

Firstly, it's the British Army. You will annoy an awful lot of Scots, Welsh, and Irish if you call it the English Army! :D
So, you want to be a Doctor? Good on you! The Army is very short on the medical side of things, shown by the recent Gulf conflict, and the amount of RAMC reservists that were called up. You will be very well looked after as an Army doctor.
May I suggest going for a Medical Cadetship. If you get it, you'll effectively be a 2nd Lt. while at Uni, and they'll pay some of your way through your course. Then, you simply do the 4 week "tarts and vicars" course at RMAS (you'll be a PQO, so won't do the full year), and voila! You're there. Competition for the Cadetship is fierce, and you'll have to do very well at RCB to get it.
If you need anymore help/advice/etc. let me know. Good luck!
