CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Don't live there, but am very familiar with it. My son went to IUP, in Indiana, PA. My ex's grandfather has a golf course outside of it called, Pleasant Valley, in Vintondale. Ex's grandmother was a patient at the hospital there a couple of times. I have been there so many times, I can't count. I used to vacation at Prince Gallitzen State Park not far from there. I have been to the Inclined Plane, and the Flood sites both on top of the hill and the place in town. I have walked through the cemetary where a lot of the flood victims are buried several times. There is a cool Indian shop out on 22 that I love to shop in, and got a neat wool poncho from. I have also been to the new immigrant museum. I took a week long class at UPJ as well. I love Johnstown and miss going there

The cementary you talked about does have a mixture of Head Stones in it form past floods as well as some interesting very old family stones. Unfortunately for me, it also has too many family members buired there also. It is a nice area but I left in 68 when the jobs seemed to be going nowhere and I moved to VA. I will be going back to see family this month so I will look for the places you stated. Did you ever go to Altoona? Thanks for your response.

The Indian shop is outside of Johnstown heading toward Ebensburg. The Immigrant museum is fairly new, like in the past 6-7 years I think. Not sure its exact title. It is like near the big old mills, just can't really name roads or anything. It gives a great history of how the immigrants settled in Johnstown and worked in the mines and then the mills.
I have been to Altoona, because Prince Gallitzen state park is closer to Altoona than Johnstown. Once we took a train ride with a history lesson on the history of the Horseshoe Curve, from Johnstown to Altoona. It was really neat.
I am a history buff, as I teach in Philadelphia. I also love the western PA mountains.

I was thinking about the Horseshoe Curve when I asked you. The thing I did not know was that Hitler actually had plans to blow this up thus causing a real slowdown in rail transportation, for the region. Thanks again and hope we can chat again soon.

Not from Johnstown from Latrobe went to UPJ though lived there for a year and you probably know Latrobe isnt far from Johnston. I go up to the Galleria pretty often. I like Johnstown its not much traffic nice people nicer I like going there better than pittsburgh. I have a camp in Jennerstown too so I kinda was raised in the whole area. What church you from

WOW!! I accidently found this site while doing a search on Prince Gallitzen. I am originally from Tyrone...not far from Johnstown. And lived shortly in Greensburg (not far from Latrobe). I believe PA has so much to offer to visitors and to me it will always be HOME. I enjoyed reading everyones post and remembered all the fun times I had at Prince Gallitzen, the Horseshoe Curve, Incline Plane.
