I looked at the videos. I think it's a bit misleading to say that he's predicting a reversal of the Reformed revival.

There are plenty of new Reformed who are doing the kinds of things he believes need to be there.

However I agree with much of what he says. I agree that the Church is important, and I'm also concerned about too uncritical a use of popular approaches. While I don't think all rock music is from the devil, I think the medium is to some extent an important part of the message, so you need to think carefully whether specific types of worship are appropriate.

I don't think most of his points have anything to do with fundamentalism. They have more to do with what the Church is. As far from a fundamentalist myself I agree with most of it. Indeed I'd like to see my own (liberal) pastor to learn the kinds of things he's talking about, without changing his theology.

I wanted to discuss the fundamentals a little:

  • The inspiration of the Bible and the inerrancy of Scripture as a result of this.
  • The virgin birth of Christ.
  • The belief that Christ's death was the atonement for sin. [However I believe the actual fundamentals also included that penal substitution is the primary model of the atonement.]
  • The bodily resurrection of Christ.
  • The historical reality of Christ's miracles.

I've seen this list before and final judgment is always included. At any rate, I see one major difference between fundamentalists and evangelicals. Evangelicals (Word Churches) relate the Scriptures to a broad spectrum of issues, social and intellectual. Fundamentalists are always emphasizing the basic tenants of revival.

Just one more thing I wanted to mention. In the videos JM seems to be concerned about supermarket style churches, not a single doctrinal issue is mentioned.

Grace and peace,
Mark
