Anyone own of copy of Dr. John Gill's works? I'm reading them online and I hate reading online, so I was wondering if anyone could suggest an edition?

Here's the two editions I found:
http://www.standardbearer.org/view.asp?isbn=1579788874
http://www.heritagebooks.org/item.asp?bookId=1933
I have his Body of divinity from Baptist Standard Bearer and zhis commentary on the whole Bible from the same. I have his sermons and tracts from Gospel Mission. I only have his Cause of God and Truth in electronic though. His Body of Divinity was he very first theology book I ever bought and it is a constant source for me.

Gospel Mission I believe does have all his works at a decent price.

What are some of Dr. Gill's teachings that stand out among Reformed Baptists? From what I can see Particular Baptists are a little different then Reformed Baptists, is this true? For instance, Gill called Sunday the Lord's Day and not the Sabbath as a general rule.

Comments by Gill.
Gal 4:10 By "days" are meant their seventh day sabbaths; for since they are distinguished from months and years, they must mean such days as returned weekly; and what else can they be but their weekly sabbaths? These were peculiar to the Israelites, and not binding on others; and being typical of Christ, the true rest of his people, and he being come, are now ceased.

Rom. 14:5 the seventh day sabbath: now there were some, who thought that the laws respecting these days were still in force, particularly the latter, and therefore esteemed it above another: but let it be observed, that the man that did so was one that was weak in faith; the same man that ate herbs, because he would not be guilty of violating those laws, which ordered a distinction of meats to be observed, the same weak man esteemed one day above another, imagining the laws concerning the distinction of days were still obligatory, not rightly understanding the doctrine of Christian liberty, or freedom from the yoke of the ceremonial law:

"or of the sabbath"; which were all peculiar to the Jews, were never binding on the Gentiles, and to which believers in Christ, be they who they will, are by no means obliged; nor ought they to observe them, the one any more than the other; and should they be imposed upon them, they ought to reject them; and should they be judged, censured, and condemned, for so doing, they ought not to mind it. It is the sense of the Jews themselves, that the Gentiles are not obliged to keep their sabbath; no, not the proselyte of the gate, or he that dwelt in any of their cities; ...

Ex. 16:23. And he said unto them, this is that which the Lord hath said, &c. Which he had said to Moses privately, for as yet he had said it to none else:

tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the Lord; according to Jarchi, the rulers asked Moses what this day was, different from other days, that double the quantity should be gathered? from whence, he says, we learn, that Moses had not as yet declared the sabbath to them; and this is indeed the first time we read of one; and though, as there was divine worship before, there must be times for it; but as there was as yet no certain place for worship, so no certain time for it, but as it was appointed by the heads of families, or as more families might agree unto and unite in; at least no day before this appears to be a day of rest from servile labour, as well as for holy use and service:

bake that which ye will bake [today], and seethe that ye will seethe; the phrase "today" is not in the text, and not necessarily supplied; the sense being plainly this, that they might take and boil what they would, and dress as much of the manna as they pleased, and eat what they would, but not that they were to bake and boil for the next day; for it is clear, by what follows, that the manna of the next day was not dressed either way, for then it would be no wonder that it did not stink; and as yet the law for not kindling a fire on the sabbath day was not given; and therefore, for aught to the contrary, they might roast or seethe on that day, or eat it as it was, as they themselves thought fit:
and that which remaineth over; what they did not bake, nor seethe, nor eat; lay up for you to be kept until the morningwhereas on other days they were to leave nothing of it till the morning, but destroy it or cast it away, whatever was left uneaten.

Gospel Mission quality vs. Baptist Standard Bearer quality...if you had to pick a publisher, which one would you pick?
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I have been out of town. The print is very small on the Baptist Standard Bearer edition and the Gospel mission is a photocopy type that is larger print but sometimes is not real clear. You may be able to get an edition of it with larger and more clear print but I wouldn't know where.

George Ella did an outstanding biography of Gill. Though you do have to overlook his riding his favorite hobbyhorse occasionally.

another biog of John Gill is 'Life and Writings Of John Gill' by John Rippon .republished by Sprinkle publications 1992 , a small 157 page hardback , without the usual ella'isms ;)

I would hardly want to carry 9 volumes to church every Sunday ;)

a good church would stock them :D

I remember when my first son was born , I had to leave the meetings as soon as he started crying and wanting his feed , but that was fine by me , I just went straight for the study room and dived into some outstanding books .......... I didn't want to leave that room ! :)
