I was told a little story, from my Uncle about 3 years ago, before he passed on. He was telling me why his business partner had quit him. They were into building trikes and my Uncle owned 3 trikes at this time. He was commissioned for $20,000 to build a man a trike. My Uncle said to his business partner," how cheap can we build a trike for"? His partner said," oh, around $20,000". My Uncle walked away and approached his partner the next day and said," well, let's say well cut off fancy tires and all the fancy metal work....how much then"? His partner said," well, maybe $15,000". My Uncle came to him the next day and said," this trike is going to a good friend of mine...so can't we go any cheaper"? His partner said," well seeing how it is for a good friend, I guess we can go as low as $12,000". Now commissioned means my Uncle already had the $20,000. That is dishonesty and decievng to some. To others it is stealing from his business partner. I thought about it, when getting back to Missouri, that it was receiving. So I wrote my Uncle a letting stating he taught me John 3:16 and I had asked him what John 3:19-21 meant. We my Uncle could not answer that question. So I said, now I know what Jesus is talking about in John 3:19-21. I said this is the condemnation or verdict, that Light has come into the would - Light is Jesus, God, goodness, truth.. but men loved darkness instead of Light- darkness is evil or wickedness... because their deeds were evil. Deeds refers to sins. Everyone that does evil - everyone refers to us all.... hates the Light -hates God. For fears his deeds will be exposed - reproved. But whoever lives by truth comes into the light- truth is honesty....so that it maybe seen plainly that what has been done has been done through God.

I never heard nothing from that letter. He was worldly and lived the carnal lifestyle. I assume he read it and laughed at me like his partner whom quit apon finding out that my Uncle ripped him off. My Uncle is a Baptist but at the end, didn't show signs that he was saved.

That reminds me of one of the parables in the bible about the unjust steward.

Just because you belong to a particular denom doesnt have any bearing on whether you saved or not...but, if your uncle professed to be baptist christian and was baptised etc Im kinda wondering if theres a bit more to this story than what you told us...

No, that was what he told me. It was my thought to explain the condemnation so he could see, that he was not living according to the truth. Hoping he repented and paid his partner his fair share of the money. That he was worldly. I mean, he had 3 trikes in his shop, that he valued at around $50,000 each. All powered coated, all custom painted, all super fancy. He could have sold one of then for the $20,000 and kept all the money - because his partner was the person whom built the trikes. My Uncle already paid him for building the other 3 trikes. So to goat the guy into going cheaper, so he got more money, seemed a lot like stories that Jesus reminded us to not do. Even my Uncle knowing he was dying and had not much time to live, one would think, this is a time to get straight with God. Not show how he could unfairly treat his fellow human beings. He thought, so what do I care, I am dying. He was saved and baptized but did not live according to the Bible. A scarey thought, about my Uncle. What does this teach me? Too be honest and live by the truth, remain in studying the Bible, stay with the church life, be there for the elderly and poor. That greed for money snares us and blinds us to what God wants for us.

? I'm not sure I follow...
Your uncle was commissioned to build a bike for $20,000, his business partner said he could do it for cheaper... this is what businesses do, to make profit. I don't know if his business partner is christian. So..what did your uncle do with the money...give it to charity? Did that person want something custom built? Your uncle might have already had 3 trikes worth that much...but, maybe his customer didn't want that.

Your uncles business partner may have wanted that money. That's how I'm reading it. It seems like your uncle didn't want to just sell him the trikes already made. Cos he didn't want to keep the money all for himself?
Just giving your uncle the benefit of the doubt (or faith!) here. It does remind me of the parable. Make friends with mammon of unrighteousness, so they can receive you into their eternal habitations. You uncles seemed to be doing a kindness to his business partner, even though it looks like he was mercenary. Its his business partner that is the one who's trying to do the deal here. Obviously, building a trike would keep him employed. But selling the others for cheap, your Uncle COULD have done that. But maybe his customer didn't want to get a cheap trike. He wanted one worth $20,000. That's what he's willing to pay.

?? other posters please help out here. Sometimes its hard to understand.

Well, I pray that it was the way you said. But I know he had time to straighten out matters with God. We all should read 1 John to be sure we are in the faith. Check every once in a while to make sure we are with God.
1 John is a really searching Epistle, yes.
