Far-right pastor Joel Webbon is an unapologetic Christian nationalist and theocratic fascist who believes that the American people are too degenerate, stupid, and cowardly to abide by the Constitution and must therefore be governed by a Christian dictator. This dictator, Webbon believes, must “rule with an iron fist” and force everyone to, at the very least, “pretend to be Christian.”

Under his preferred form of Christian nationalist theocracy, Webbon wants to see the Apostles’ Creed added to the Constitution; abortion, pornography, no-fault divorce, in vitro fertilization, and birth control outlawed; non-Christians kept out of his neighborhood and out of public office; Catholics relegated to second-class citizenship; immigrants shot for trying to enter the country; adulterers put to death; women banned from voting and publicly executed for making false claims of sexual assault; and the government used to "absolutely terrorize" his political enemies.

Fully aware that promoting these sorts of views gets him labeled as a Nazi, Webbon appeared on "The J. Burden Show" last week where he voiced his hope that someday soon, people will be able to "get over Hitler" and learn to "humanize" the German dictator so that Webbon's own political agenda of authoritarian nationalism and patriarchy won't appear so radical.

An influential 'Christian Nationalist' pastor who claims that God does not want women to vote has sparked fury again after asserting that black doctors are given a 'free pass' in medical school.

Joel Webbon of the Covenant Bible Church in Texas told his social media followers that he would always choose a white doctor over a black doctor because 'if one of them was not qualified and was given a free pass, it'd be the black guy.'

Sounds like The Handmaid’s Tale with some creative license. Kookiness aside, there’s a lot of men who share his ideas on several issues. I see their comments often on videos concerning women. I don’t think the majority realize the climate we’re breeding and how far the gender war has gone. It won’t end well.

From the bottom of the article…

Joel Webbon is closely associated with influential MAGA-world figures. He was a contributor to “The Statement on Christian Nationalism and the Gospel” along with Christian nationalist William Wolfe, an associate of OMB Director Russ Vought, whose Center for Renewing America viewed the promotion of Christian nationalism as a top priority for a second Trump administration. Webbon is one of the misogynist “theobros” connected to the far-right slavery-apologist pastor Doug Wilson, whose Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches is planting a new congregation in Washington, D.C. to take advantage of their ties to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and “calibrate” the Christians in the Trump administration.

We’re at the point when we should denounce these people and evict them from the flock.

Hitler wasnt Satan. He was human. This change away from this WW2 paradigm that Hitler was Satan incarnate is not a bad thing. He was a man, an evil man but a man nonetheless with motivations and human limitations.
By thinking Hitler was inhuman, we subconsciously say that we could never sink to such evil. Not so. It's unpleasant to consider, but ever single one of us are capable of such evil. That likely isn't what Mr. Webbon means, but it's still something we should keep in mind.

Webbon's comment about doctors brought this to mind:

FWIW, when you're in an emergency room, the race of the attending physician is the last thing on you mind.

No we shouldn’t keep that in mind nor are most willing to do what he did. We may defend our loved ones from harm and respond in kind. But the majority don’t have the stomach for killing large groups of people or torturing them either. You’d need a thirst for sadism to do so.

Given the history of human warfare and how perfectly normal people can be transformed into killers on the most flimsy pretense, I'd say you're wrong. The allies didn't mind causing mass casualties yet you probably wouldn't say they were Sadists. They were cold and calculated and determined to win by any means possible. Hitler was as well but his methods were just more brutal.

There’s a difference between the military and laymen. I wasn’t referencing soldiers in that comment.

Not really. The average layman is capable of great brutality and lethality when circumstances force him to be such.

“When circumstances force him” is the caveat. They’re not mini Hitlers by choice.

I mean given different circumstances Hitler might not have even have been a Hitler. That's the problem with dehumanizing a mere man and treating him as the literal incarnation of Satan. We are all capable of great evil sometimes for the things we love. In Hitler's case it was for Germany and the Germans.

I don’t believe he’s satan and anyone with a modicum of experience with spiritual warfare will know the difference. I think he was part of something greater and that’s all I say. I will not die for many or take a life on their account as well. We all have our boundaries.

Because you're a woman and likely won't be drafted in any war to fight. It's not in your nature to desire or do it. For men however it is different and men have always been compelled towards violence all throughout history. Although if the threat were existential women have been known to encourage and shame men they know into fighting to the death on their behalf. So I don't know, who can say unless they're tested. Yet we know circumstances can change people radically and only a select few keep their values in the face of death.

You assume all men are like yourself which is a mistake. Nor would I encourage the one I love to risk himself on behalf of his country or otherwise. God gifts everyone differently and he’s needed elsewhere. You mention my gender with related assumptions but I‘m the one who likes guns and the more ruthless between the two. Looks can be deceiving.

Oh, how I wish you were right. That would mean there were limits that normal people would not cross. Yet Hitler had no lack of those willing to participate in the Holocaust, and of those very few, if any, were clinically insane. A post-WWII psychological study was released or made public in the 1970s, and it showed no difference between Nazis and the average Westerner. The long defunct Science Digest had a short article about it with the words "...just plain folks.." in the title. That's where I first learned of it. As evil as the Holocaust was, most of the participants were psychologically average people.

Disturbing? Very much so, because it means average people are capable of monstrous things. But history has already shown this, over and over. As we're told in Jeremiah 17:9:

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?"

I thought it was C.S. Lewis who created the term "the banality of evil," but it turns out it was Hannah Arendt in her book Eichmann in Jerusalem. Six psychologists examined Eichmann and came away with the conclusion that he was average, without any mental illness. It was a psychologically average person who was one of the organizers of the Holocaust.

At most we can hope and pray we'd never commit such evil, but unfortunately even great evil can be seen as a casual thing by the person who does it.
