Is he is really all the hype or is he another false prophet or money grubber? If he really was interested in preaching the gospel or helping people, he would go and start preaching in one o f Trump's blank countries.

Somewhere in between as most of the preachers in his style are. There are legitimately a lot of people that are helped by his messages, but they are also not really theologically deep, sometimes contrary to orthodox thought.

The issue as I see it is that it is akin to theological candy, it tastes good, but there is no substance to it and one cannot really grow with it.

I am by no means a regular fan, but I have listened to Pastor Osteen on occasion and I have not found him to be a prosperity televangelist type preacher at all. I don't recall any time he has actually talked about money or financial prosperity in any capacity other than in an incidental way. He does peach a Gospel of hope, love, salvation, and that God wants us to be blessed with loving supportive relationships, great kids, good health, and success in our honorable endeavors. And he thinks the best way to combat sin is to encourage and teach people to love God. He doesn't preach a strong social gospel or a gospel of fear of the devil, you're going to hell, or God is punishing you, or dangling folks over the pit to bring them to repentance.

He doesn't get into the complicated theology issues that make most people's eyes glaze over, but he has made me think from time to time. I think his message is quite a bit more than theological candy.

I did not say he was a prosperity gospel preacher.

Granted, I have only listened to a handful of his sermons, so I am sure he is more than I have heard, but from what I heard he is a surface level preacher. There is nothing wrong with that, people need that, but they also need deeper level understanding eventually. :)

Agreed, but that deeper level understanding is much more likely to happen in small prayer and study groups that it will in the worship service no matter what is preached. The average person retains only a small clip from every sermon if even that. We can be comforted, uplifted, encouraged, convicted, and yes taught in worship and from the pulpit, but in my opinion the worship service is to reinforce us in our Christian faith and inspire us to seek deeper understanding. And I don't mean at all to diminish the importance of the preacher. I think God calls every preacher worthy of the name to be His voice to His people.

He's an entertaining motivational speaker that throws some religion into the mix.

Truthfully i like the guy alot, i asked for advice about him and i was told by my dad and a good friend that they're not really fans of him

So i mix in some Charles Stanley, Joyce Meyers and Greg Laurie

Not that I've listened in much, because I haven't, but what little I have listened in on I have found him to be Biblically sound and he held my attention. And since I tend to be a bit jaded when it comes to preachers, that is a compliment. :)
